| I Work In Healthcare (Posted on 11/13/12 at 9:31 am)
...for a company that employees over 20k in the US. Today began the first wave of layoffs in anticipation of the massive 2013 budget cuts we're in for. My company is one of the few tht turned higher profits in 06-09 when a lot of others were going under. Not one employee was laid off during a time that was difficult for most businesses. Now we're looking at potentially 1000 layoffs before the end of 2012 in anticipation on Obamacare completely destroying our revenue and profit margins. 104 people were laid off this morning and an entire office was closed. Hope and change

Sorry, unless you're more specific about your position, your company, and its function there's no way to adjudge the veracity of your claim.

They have to cut 1000k jobs and their benefits to counterbalance the added cost. Not that hard to figure out. As Clinton said, its simple arithmetic.

I used to work in healthcare too. Then my owner liquidated the business when Obamacare was passed. Now I work for the state.

You wouldn't accept his claims no matter his position, function and argument presented.

Why bother. If I led you to a cliff and said "Look, here is a cliff" your response would be "I don't see it."

A company that provides healthcare would likely receive MORE remuneration from Obamacare... so until we know more details I'll have to conclude his assertion of "more costs" is pure bunk.

Same here. Work for charity hospital in Monroe. Just had massive layoffs with more expected. Seems that money Obama took from Medicaid to pay for Obamacare, coupled with Jindal's hatred of poor people, means the end of indigent healthcare in Louisiana. Yep, those Dems really care about those in need.

Read the bill and what the effects will be then come back.

Based upon your lack of position or function I doubt the veracity of that claim.

My father-in-law had a medical practice that consisted mainly of elderly sick people on Medicare. By the time he closed his practice, Medicare was paying my father-in-law $29 for an hour visit. He's internal medicine, so his patients had multiple ailments and usually took up every bit of that hour. The last year, he had to pay his nurses and office staff out of his own pocket, because that amount of money couldn't even pay his overhead. He know works as a hospitalist and does fine, but nearly 1000 patients in the Monroe area lost the best doctor in the region. So, here's the question: What incentive does anyone have to become a physician when the single payer doesn't pay enough to have your own business?

Conversely I could tell you that Obamacare is reducing costs by demanding lower administrative costs from healthcare providers. While getting laid off because a healthcare company would have more clients make no sense, a round of layoffs because they need to lower their administrative costs, and thus the overall cost of healthcare, would make total sense.

I plan on reading it after I get done reading the federal tax code. It's quite a riveting piece of literature.

First of all many of these stories are always pretty dubious. It's not like if we have single payer there just won't be any doctors. Second, this thread seems to be on the payer side, not provider.
