I guess I just really don't get it. I don't think it's wrong for y'all to carry at all. You are rite I should therefore just let you do whatever you want and not question you. I just feel like if there's somewhere I feel I need a gun to go I just don't go. Maybe the world is a worse place than I'm used to at the end of my gravel road in Mer Rouge Haha

Yes, yes it is . I was having this conversation with my BIL the other day. CC is just like anything else, you need practice. If you never carry unless you feel in danger then you'll be tugging at your shirt, standing awkward, pulling your belt up, etc. the one time that you do carry. Carrying all the time makes you comfortable carrying your gun anywhere.

To be fair, my opinion on the issue is not that of the norm. I do not agree with gun laws or the very existence of the CCL. I only jumped through the hoops because I had to.

Don't be dramatic.

I understand this and I usually follow the same guideline in my personal life. However, I occasionally drive through rough neighborhoods in my personal errands and I work a few days a week near a somewhat rough area.

I'm afraid so. I live in New Orleans; statistics say I need a gun.

Yup. Movie theater is where I got most of my practice. You aren't doing a lot of physical activity there and after a few hours of sitting you forget it's even on you.

Question.
So if you have a permit and are carrying and some guy pulls a gun out in walmart and starts shootin you can handle that ? Or does he have to be shooting at you?

Do you mean legally? Or are you referring to my mental preparation?

Question.
No matter what hypothetical is presented about a mad man with a gun; would you rather be armed or unarmed?

Yea, Drake I figured most of the conversation between us is in good fun but don't mind me while I make an example of you to illustrate some points .

quote:

No I mean legally. In Louisiana

Can a CC'er legally handle it? What do you mean?

There are 3 battles you must face if you use your weapon...

1. Gun Battle
2. Legal Battle
3. Emotional Battle

To elaborate...

1. You can choose to engage or not. If the person is deemed not a threat to you and you wish not to engage, that is your prerogative. You made the choice to carry and you can make the choice to fight or flee.

As for me, I can't stand seeing bad things happen to good people (especially when the scum of the Earth is committing such acts). I may not be law enforcement, but I think I am a good enough shot to be a first responder.

I also should specify that I am not an officer and will not hop in my car and drive somewhere to find danger. If someone near me or in my close proximity is in danger and I have the means of protecting that person, I will do what I can to help.

Also, no 2 situations are alike. As a CHL holder you must think of scenarios in your head because you will never be 100% ready for it. You just have to practice and rely on your instincts when the adrenaline kicks in.

2. This is where I think living in LA would help, especially since the new passing of SB303 into LA 2A. If the force was deemed legal, you should be okay here. But as I said before, you're responsible for whatever leaves your weapon and you have no insurance for hitting a bystander. You must know the backstop and the consequences of bad decisions. To put it bluntly, one must use good judgment. Period.

3. If you have to take a life it will change you forever. If you have to draw your weapon and not take a life it will change you forever. But in both of these things, there is one thing not taken from you - your life. Cherish that you still have it and do your best to move on.

And as an off topic aside, of course you should avoid hostile areas. But what people don't realize is that criminals are opportunistic. If they see a girl walking around with a nice purse, one can hop out of a car, start to beat her, and run away with it, or possibly run away with her in hand as well.

Crimes can happen anywhere. I hate it when people say "it's a safe area." The area may be safe, but if you're part of that small statistic of crime in that area (even if it's .000001%), it won't be "safe" for you ever again.

To reply to the original question: yes.
Ill also agree with what was said by bapple and yeti especially about being comfortable with carrying.
To add to the conversation you must be prepared to take action. You will almost always resort to your most practiced training which for most of the people is sending rounds down a range without a holster draw or a barricade or a moving target etc. To be a real successful cc holder you must be mentally prepared and go through the different situations in your mind. For instance: if you are car jacked at gun point will you shoot? My answer is no as I don't see that insured material object worth a life. However, I will not go with that car and won't let a loved one go with it either. Statistics show when you leave at gunpoint, it's highly likely you don't come back

The only time I CC is if I'm around a bunch of kids(with my little girl at parties, park, ect, ect) the rest of the time, it's my Glock on my side. Tennessee permit is a carry permit, not a CC permit. Oh, and to answer the OP's question, every day.

My biggest problem with the idea is that a good portion of the people doing it have absolutely no business doing it.

Statistics state otherwise. CCL holders are the least likely people to get a DUI, Break the Law, or just do stupid shite in general.

I've been wrestling with the idea for a while. Still not sure if I'm going to get a CCL or not. My primary concern is me launching one at a perp in a gas station, missing, and hitting a 5 year old between the eyes. I'd rather be dead.

I am about to start CC everyday. Just waiting to get my renewal in. Shopping for a pistol in a couple of weeks when I get back to TX.

Everyone has given great advice on gun selections btw...even the Glock Haters.

My old man owns a couple of pharmacies.

He has to walk in and out, in the morning and at night, holding. Does him no good to conceal. He's cocked and and ready to rock if someone goes at him bro.

You gotta have some quick wheel skills to go heel on somebody from a concealed position. That's the shitty part about it all.
