re: Louisiana secession petition hits the mark

People laugh but Norway has a population of 4.9 million and Louisiana has a population of 4.6 million. Norway's largest industry is petroleum. Hmmmm.
Uruguay has a population of 3.6 million.

Yea and Norway isn't part of Russia.

Do you think if Russia was in control of Norway they would just let them leave?

Arrested by whom? The Texas Rangers? Or the MP's who reside in Texas and would therefor no longer be subject to or able to enforce US law?

Dude, we know it isn't going to happen. All we are discussing is that Texas could make it work. It's all hypothetical. There will be no secession.

Arrested by the massive amounts of US troos deployed there to protect American interest

But they couldn't make it work and the main reason would be trade embargoes

Oh, I knew my nation was becoming more and more totalitarian so I'm glad you were honest in bringing up Russia.

People are on here are stating that Louisiana couldn't make it and I just listed a similar sized nation, Norway, where the petroleum industry is a major factor in their economy.
Earl K. Long screwed Louisiana out of finances it should make from the oil industry compared to other states that weren't shafted like Louisiana was.

Like I said, you obviously don't understand how geopolitics works.

Ok America would step in, in the event of an invading army.

But would we step in of foreign companies just came in and bought up everything?

The Russians did just that with Finland in the early 20th century. Also, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, etc. left the political control of the British Empire without violence.

I really don't have any idea where you are getting all this nonsense. You are literally all over the place and I have no idea where you are getting it from.

You are clearly the stupidest person on TD. Why would any country impose trade sanctions on Texas? And even if the US shut down all shipping out of Texas they wouldn't be able to stop Texas from using Mexico as a middle man. The U.S. would essentially have to declare war on most of central America to keep Texas if it really wanted out. The U.N. charter would also help Texas out in this instance (right of self determination). Do you want to see NATO allies get pissed at the U.S. because that is what would come next in your delusion.

Russia and Finland fought a war over it. Russia didn't just let them go.

Canada, Nz, and South Africa do not share a border with England

It's all good man.. Hypothetical anyway.

If this split every occurred it would be peaceful, or it would never take place to begin with.

Where is my delusion?

Do you honestly think that Texas could leave the US and automatically be a top 15 nation in the world?

re: Louisiana secession petition hits the mark
it's not going to happen

But I'd probably move to Texas if they could pull it off.

If they got Louisiana too, they'd be in the top 10.

No, the Finns had a civil war for power amongst themselves. The Russian government acknowledged the secession.

What the hell does this have to do with anything? They were British colonies, consisting of British subjects, founded and funded by the British Empire. So if Alaska secedes you have an entirely different outlook than Louisiana? Jesus Christ you are so full of it.

If you did secede the us navy would make damn sure you didnt control access to the mississippi river.

If the US ever let Louisiana, Texas, or any other state leave the union, it would do so only after negotiating issues such as this to protect it's interests.

The more likely result of any sucession discussions would be negotiated settlements to appease the states to remain (i.e recognition of larger state boundaries in the Gulf, higher percentage shares of federal oil lease revenues from the Gulf, etc).
