and if this continues, mack is gone. i would love to see y'all matched up against them in a bowl game this year and y'all kick their ass. that would be great. and if tdhey don't dump him after that, he'd better win a lot the next year.

What if he loses to A&M in a bowl game, which is not out of the question?

No way. Arky has the weakest recruiting base in SEC. Recruiting is the life blood of college football.

Lol, he is another Paterno. Won't step down no matter what. He will have to be forced out in some way, but it won't be on his own.

Sort of a thread hijack but I found this to be interesting: BurntOrange Nation post on effect of coaching change Some interesting points from article:
quote:
There have been four ways coaches have left their teams over this time period: firing, voluntarily quitting, retiring and leaving under a cloud of sanctions. 14 programs have won titles over the last 20 years. Of those programs, only Texas, Oklahoma and Auburn have not had at least one coaching change, though a firing at Auburn seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point.
quote:
LSU (2003, 2007) - The Tigers have but a single 1-loss season since Les Miles arrived in 2005 though they do have a 2-loss national championship and a pair of SEC titles. We'll call Miles to LSU the gold standard of replacing a departing legend.
And I disagree with the final thought:
quote:
At 8-2 this year and a lineup built for a big year in 2013, we hope Mack gets one more shot at a title next year before riding off into the burnt orange sunset

HMMMM... The last sentence sounds really similar to what i heard before the season started this year. And we know how that turned out. Another OU buttfricking, and another loss to the wizard..

It would be in his best interest to retire this year.

But looks about twenty years older. Beat up. Weathered. Ready to retire. Stooped. Texas football must be rough on a coach. Darrell Royal retired at age 52. That is awfully young to retire from coaching.

Mack's been a HC for a lot longer than Saban. He was HC at Tulane for 3 years, then 10 years at UNC before going to Texas., I think he's been at Texas alone basically the same length of time Saban has been at MSU, LSU and Bama.

quote: No disrespect to TAMU, but like Arkansas, there are a few jobs out there that are far more prestigious. quote: keep underestimating us. that's gonna work out swell. Texas A&M is a program on the rise. The piggies can think they are on the same level but they are not. Sumlin would not go to Texas, all this more prestigious stuff is not looking at it the right way. Yes, Texas is a "better" job, but not so much so that someone that's building at A&M is leaving for that. I don't know if it's his dream job, but when he was at UH, Sumlin talked about A&M more than any other school. If he is rolling at A&M he's not going to get lured away to OU either.
Aren't you guys getting a little carried away here? How successful would Sumlin be this year without Maziel? No offense but you need to sustain a level of success over more than 9 games. There are an awful lot of programs ahead of aTm in the best jobs category. You guys aren't in the top 15!

I'll give you 12. USC (Pre-Sanctions) Texas Florida Ohio State Alabama Michigan Notre Dame LSU Georgia Tennessee Oklahoma Auburn I think Texas A&M could easily fall in with the Oregons, Florida States, and Okie States of the world after that. The biggest play for them is that they are the only Texas school in the SEC, which puts them in the drivers seat for a lot of recruits that they couldn't get before.

A&M is a top 15 job. We weren't before the SEC move but we are now.

A&M looks more attractive than Tennessee and Michigan right now on that Top 15 list.

I think as long as Saban rules the state and donors rule the school we are a better job than Auburn as well. Less history but way more potential.
