A few years after voting nearly 50% for Bush ,they vote for Obama, & now all of a sudden they only want 'free stuff'? I see

And don't forget that Ike got the majority of the Black vote as recently as 1956, and even Nixon got 32% in 1960.

did you skip over the whole "party identification" issue?

and in 2004 i think they were voting socially. by 2012 this doesn't appear to matter to them as a bloc

agree that it shouldn't be the go to assumption, but in this scenario exit polling showed that Hispanics, by in large, have an economically liberal outlook. Only 11% named debt and deficit as their primary concern. The Republicans will have huge problems with Hispanics even if they are recognized for championing amnesty.

Bush & McCain(Texas & Arizona ironically) who understand this issue have championed it , BUT they get fierce push back from their own Party. Perry(Texas who understands) nearly got Jeered & nearly run from the primaries for simply allowing 'in state' tuition to immigrant Children.

No one has yet to explain why Bush got nearly 50% of the Hispanic vote. Free stuff?

Some Hispanics were still voting loyally Republican because of Reagan amnesty.

Hispanics liked the GOP. It's the GOP turning on Hispanics it seems to them with the anti immigrant vitriol.

social issues

GWB was from TX and had regional appeal in the SWUS

his brother was the governor of florida

when you have popularity in TX, Zona, OK, and Florida, you're going to swing a big chunk of the latino vote

Republicans do a good job of reinforcing their contempt for Illegal Immigrants. I mean, the term "Self Deportation" is a terrible strategy to pursue. This is the type of stuff that is destroying the Republican brand.

Bush did extensive outreach to Hispanics.

Bush only lost 56% of the vote because most latinos are more liberal than conservative economically. Hispanics also, according to polling data, had a more hard line stance against abortion and gay marriage at that time. That helped Bush greatly. Nearly a decade has passed. Republicans have made some missteps on immigration since.

It's a combination of a lot of different things, though. It's not just immigration is what I'm saying. The problems the party has also include an economic outlook among the majority of hispanics that is different from the party's.

Thanks. Some also still identified with the GOP because of Reagan amnesty

. They are losing this trust with the GOP waging cultural jihad in Arizona & Alabama.

GOP legislators (Virgil Peck) suggesting illegals be shot at the border from helicopters like 'feral pigs'.

They also saw the hostility to the Dream Act & Rick Perry get creamed in the primaries for his extending 'in state' tuition.

Can anyone imagine Democrats beginning the Presidential race with :

Cali-55+
NY- 30
Florida-29+
Texas- 38+
Arizona- 11+
New Mexico- 5+

170+ Electoral votes in only 6 states before traditionally Democratic states like Mass., Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut,Pennsylvania,etc.......

& not counting new Purples like Virginia, N.C.,etc....

I never saw the GOP solve or even address the spending problems during the Bush years. Republicans acting as though they are the moral voice on deficit spending is laughable.

Fact: The last President to Balance the Budget was Bill Clinton

I agree. It was absolutely disgusting. It made me sick. Barack Obama felt the same way. He said Bush's deficits were unpatriotic.
quote:

Fact: The last President to Balance the Budget was Bill Clinton, when Newt Gingrich forced his hand and he had a Bill Gates economy
The Democrat party's line is that we can afford to leave Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as is so long as we raise one tax rate from 36% to 39% and trim military spending. Please tell me how it adds up. I'm begging you.

that's a bigger issue than the "public services" stigma. you can't win when blocs vote based on party ID...you just have to hope they don't show up to vote

But when you're outnumbered 58 to 42 you can't rely on turnout

Just won't happen

The only solution is a Balanced Budget Amendment. I guess the only question is how you go about the Amendment? Unless we decide to go off the cliff?

A Balanced Budget Amendment will force reform IMO

It's sad that it's needed, but it is. Look, when I say that Democrats are putrid at spending, that doesn't mean that I think Republicans are somehow great. They've gotten almost as economically and fiscally illiterate. It sickens me, just as it should anyone else. I just don't know how anyone can look at Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and say that severe cuts aren't needed for future beneficiaries. I cannot fathom it.

I think the problem is latinos think republicans don't like them. Its not the immigration issue, its how fierce the right fights to be the toughest on immigration. And I think Hispanics perceive them to be racist.

Would you vote for someone you thought didn't like you b.c of something you don't control? I don't think you would.

I personally think the republican argument of pro-liberty, smaller gov't appeals to a large segment of the population. But they frick it up with their stance on other issues: gay marriage, abortion, immigration, etc. If they could just shut the frick up, then they might do better with certain demographics including hispanics.

But the thing is they won't STFU. They are going to keep babbling about legitimate rape, two border fences, self deportation, etc. Then they are going to get all angry about how this country is ruined, and imply its minorities that are ruining it.
