| Demographics have Democrats targeting Texas and Arizona (Posted on 11/12/12 at 2:46 pm)
Cruz worried about Texas turning bright Blue Newly-Elected Texas Senator Is Absolutely Terrified About His State Going Blue
quote:
“In not too many years, Texas could switch from being all Republican to all Democrat,” he said. “If that happens, no Republican will ever again win the White House. New York and California are for the foreseeable future unalterably Democrat. If Texas turns bright blue, the Electoral College math is simple. We won’t be talking about Ohio, we won’t be talking about Florida or Virginia, because it won’t matter. If Texas is bright blue, you can’t get to two-seventy electoral votes. The Republican Party would cease to exist. We would become like the Whig Party. Our kids and grandkids would study how this used to be a national political party. ‘They had Conventions, they nominated Presidential candidates. They don’t exist anymore.’”
quote:
Some Democrats think that Texas and Arizona could be the next to become swing states, and there were signs of a future Democratic invasion into these Southwestern states during the 2012 campaign, including San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro's keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention. Cruz is right: Without Texas' 38 electoral votes, it would be virtually impossible for Republicans to win a presidential election. There is simply not a corresponding state that Republicans are targeting to go from blue to red. Sylvia Manzano, an analyst at the polling firm Latino Decisions, said that Texas could be in play by as early as 2016 — if Democrats are willing to work for it and its steadily growing Latino population.

Wow. Maybe this explains why we no longer have border enforcement... Libs want the country to look like California. Then 20 years later like Detroit.

A Hillary-Castro ticket in 2016 would be formidable.

Obama has returned more undocumented immigrants to their Country in 4 years than Bush in 8. This general disrespect, hate & bigotry towards immigrants is what George Bush(44% of Hispanic vote), Jeb, Huntsman,etc......have been trying to warn you about. You have alienated Blacks( typically 90% Dem) Jewish(typically around 80% Dem) Now the GOP & it's base are alienating Hispanics.

The shitty economy might have something to do with that...

This is the attitude that kills republicans Any minority votes democrat and the first thing people assume is that they're wanting to get something because of it If this attitude continues, republicans are done

You would be wrong, but keep dreaming The "Dream Act" and Immigration Reform are going to help build a permanent coalition of Democrats for years to come. The Republicans have no choice but to go along with President Obama on Immigration now. 17 Million new voters and guess who brought them Immigration Reform?

When Hispanics voted nearly 50% for George Bush(who understood this issue being a Texan) who wanted immigration reform what were they voting for? Bush GOT nearly 50% of the Hispanic vote ,but thanks to pandering to bigots & the anti immigration vitriol from the right the GOP is alienating them. GOP war on immigrants in Arizona & Alabama don't help the GOP image nor the GOP Presidential primaries when they were battling to see who could be the toughest towards immigrAnts. A few years after voting nearly 50% for Bush ,they vote for Obama, & now all of a sudden they only want 'free stuff'? I see

I agree that it shouldn't be the go to assumption, but in this scenario exit polling showed that Hispanics, by in large, have an economically liberal outlook. Only 11% named debt and deficit as their primary concern. The Republicans will have huge problems with Hispanics even if they are recognized for championing amnesty.

This. If the GOP wants to stand by its principles even though it means its own destruction, then good for it. But if it chooses that route, it can't complain about dying. Which is more important, the current party line on immigration or winning elections? Your choice, GOP.

i think party identification matters more that's a bigger issue than the "public services" stigma. you can't win when blocs vote based on party ID...you just have to hope they don't show up to vote
