And, yes ... USMC falls under DON.
A few other factoids:
- USCG operates under the Dept of Homeland Security (previously under Dept of Transportation, if I'm not mistaken, when DHS didn't exist, pre-9/11) ... but can fall under Dept of the Navy in a time of war.
- Most know USMC motto "Semper Fidelis" - "Always Faithful" .... USCG motto is "Semper Paratus" ... "Always Ready"
