And to hell with them for killing Cortana.
I've heard from people who played FFVII how it was sad as hell when Aeris is killed (never played FFVII). That's how I think of this.
As you can tell, I really like Halo.

I kinda figured the didact and cortana would make it to a sequel.
Seems like they dwelt a lot on the chief being a "machine".
Maybe cortana dying will have a humanizing effect?

But seriously, I think some of these developers intentionally sacrifice quality for the sake of a sequel.

That timeline explains some things, like WHAT THE frick THE DIDACT WAS. If you hadn't read all the terminals in Halo 3 then you were clueless as to what he was (other than Voldemorts relative).

I don't read any of the novels or other supplementary shit, so I was slightly confused for a while.

I saw it as her using her remaining energy/self to control the hardlight, like she did when she bound the didact, and create a much larger hardlight shield.
That's just how I saw it.
Still pretty out there, but it at least makes some sense...I guess...maybe.

What I don't get is why they didn't save the Cortana destruction for the end of the trilogy and she and the chief can go out in an actual blaze of glory, as they should.

If you watch the video after the credits, it sets it up for the sequel. Also, I'm pissed cortana died. That could have been saved for 6, it's not like it would be that hard to say AI die in 10 years instead of 7. I feel like they did that because they felt they needed more story substance but you really have all the story substance you need when this dude has a giant fricking ship, that can control motherfricking brains, and a weird looking forerunner motherfricker on it.
I'm with scruffy, cortana and chief should have went down in a fricking glorious scene of all scenes at the end of 6.
And it better be fricking glorious when chief dies. Glorious.

I liked the ending besides Cortana being knocked off. It was weird though. I still wish they would have made Chiefs Armor for who beat it on Solo Legendary only.
