many companies follow Jack Welch's rule at GE...lay off the bottom 10% every year. These stories are great political fodder, and not doubt some are running on tight margins, but you can't really know the full story without fully understanding the internals of each company.

Sucks for the workers but I don't blame the employers. Just like when the government prevented banks from charging over-draft fees, they found other ways to make the same they always did. Big government makes it worse then before. I rather have no benefits than no job.
