Why not? I keep hearing how Louisiana is a net liability. Seems like a great way to save some money.

Good point there. I keep hearing how I'm not allowed to complain about big government because Mississippi gets more money than it sends in. But I'm not getting any of that largesse. Now, if you're one of those necks who used to come into my BIL's seafood market wanting to buy boiled crawfish with your EBT card, then yes you should STFU. But otherwise, you have plenty of reason to complain.

Seeing how there's roughly 8,100 signatures only 5 days in and it closes December 7th. What happens when this petition gets the 25,000 signatures there looking for? I imagine nothing but more than it is now just curious since it is on whitehouse.gov.

Well, if you took Alabama and Mississippi along with you, this new nation would control most of the deep water ports on the continental US. Alabama also makes damn fine automobiles, and I'm sure we could fire those steel plants back up.

You're a complete idiot if you think it's a legit possibility and a lot of states are "considering" it.
Exactly, radicals on MSG boards and the Internet bring it up.... However those who actually hold positions of authority In States do not consider this. Yes, you can give me articles where Rick Perry or some state legislator said something, but that's just bluster. No state would seriously consider this. Those in Louisiana who say gun owners would solve the crime problem, you're essentially saying you're ok with a third world country with security issues or the wild west... As long as you have a gun, I guess no one is worried about the fact they would have to consistently defend their property from roaming bands of criminals? I understand Nola is not far from that right now anyways.... (Nola people I kid before you get all riled up)

Pulled this off the site. So I wonder if that means if/when it's gets the 25,000 signatures that's enough support for them to acknowledge it or if needs more. I think it would be hilarious for them to issue an "official response".

Well, the logistics of such a move are intimidating to say the least. State government assumes role of federal government. Currency must be printed and an exchange rate determined. I assume all military assets would be nationalized and the National Guard would become the new army--this could be difficult for obvious reasons. There would be many hurdles and obstacles, but it has been done before--and fairly recently. I truly believe there will come a time in my lifetime--the next forty years--where states will begin to leave the union peacefully. The US is too big, and it cannot hold together for too much longer. Just hope it's not bloody.

There are times when I defend my home state strongly, and then there are times when I read the stupidity and ignorance in a thread such as this. Keep it classy, a-holes.

Does that count federal taxes on oil? I'm not saying you're wrong, but the federal government has a way of changing the meaning of a word in a sentence in order to make the sentence mean what they would like it to mean.
As garland robinette put it: "Give us our damn oil money. If Louisiana got its money from off-shore drilling we would be a state like Saudi Arabia... We would all be driving Rolls Royce"

I'm sure the local National Guardsmen are itching to give up their federally funded pay and benefits.

Well, leave us morons and idiots alone with the newly aquired offshore rights all to ourselves. You can move to CA, OR, WA, NY, DC, NJ, VT, MI, IL, MN, WI, OH, PA, or whatever state with: Homosexual marriage, no christmas, no easter, obama cash, a constituion busting supreme court, NO 2nd ammendment, limits on the 1st, legal marijuana, abortion candy pills, wind mills & solar panels for your power, all jobs unionized, and not counting all the newly formed taxes to pay for the existing taxes. should I go on? Our country is over as we know it after Barry was re-elected. The Supreme Court will now be his bidding, and he controls everything thru executive orders thru HIS cabinets to bypass congress. Truly, its time for change before we live subjective to Socialism.
