I believe 100% something is up with this situation, but he'd have TOO many friends who'd sympathize with him for the leaks to stop.
One problem, blackmails usually aren't done like this, we'd never have heard this story if it was blackmail. Something bigger had to have happened in the background.

If it was blackmail he calls a conference says a poorly written paragraph *like* he has a gun to his head and admits the affair. His wife of many years, military brat is told. This way Obama has nothing to hold over him. Obama used blackmail of threatening to leak divorce court papers with his first successful senate seat to get Jack Ryan to drop out.Therefore winning.
I hope this General is not playing checkers because Obama and his thugs and Lizard face are playing chess. Nervously but they are playing well.

Or... there was no affair he made it up to get out quickly because he was told to do so. But he can still testify I am hearing. So the other story may add up better and he freaked out Obama by laying the affair trump card on the table leaving him to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and defend from enemies both foreign and domestic.

When Billy Jeff was getting blown in the oval office Monica 'could have' read classified e-mails. Why wasn't the FBI called? Why was it his private affair? Because he wasn't getting ready to testify under oath for a guilty as frick sitting president, that's why.
ETA: okay, maybe Gore didn't invent the internet all the way at this time frame, so classified information.

I doubt the hearing is going to be called off, the CIA will still provide witnesses and Petreaus can still be called before Congress.
Don't think this changes anything about the enquiry into Benghazi
