re: Windows 8 - Anyone Want Some Bugs?

How often do people even use the start button anyway? I had shortcut icons on the desktop for just about everything.

I haven't missed the start button at all.

I did have to look up how to close apps because they removed the X in the corner.

Can't find a fix yet for Netflix other than using the app as opposed to the browser.

Is security essentials integrated into Windows 8?

I have had a TechNet sub for a few years now. $149 a year and I have access to basically all of MS software catalog. Best money I have ever spent, but I do have several PCs in my home and I tend to do clean install periodically

Pretty much. I guess I occasionally used the search and to access control panel, but once you get used to hovering your mouse in the right corner it isn't a big deal.

do tell. I just go back to the Metro and then hover on the left side until the side pane pops out. Then right click and close the program. It works, but it is far from efficient.

I bought this for $5

Gives me back the Start button and allows me to boot right to the desktop.

you close apps by moving the mouse to the top of the screen until you see the hand icon, then drag in down to the bottom and the program goes away.

Simple enough. Thanks.

Someone over on the Windows Forums fixed my Netflix problem.

New Problem

I can't turn my PC off. When I turn it off, it comes back on to tell me it encountered a problem and asks if I can send my info to MS.

This feature in computers has always reminded me of Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing. Just, Why?

re: Windows 8 - Anyone Want Some Bugs?

Just so you know where I am coming from...I am a bit of a fanboy when it comes to Microsoft and after a couple of days, I think this is going to be even worse than the Vista fiasco for the average user.

When using APPS, they are all full screen and you can't easily bounce from one program to the next.

The whole Start Screen is pointless for a multi-tasker. Anyone with dual screens and any multi-tasker is going to spend all of their time on the desktop because of the limitations of the Start Screen.

The only feature I like so far, is that when using dual monitors on the desktop, you now have a taskbar on each monitor.

Tip #1 - if you like the games that come with Windows(spider solitaire, Freecell} you need to download them for free from the app store. They were not included in the windows 8 upgrade.

That is a really crappy way to get millions of app downloads all at once so they can claim the app store is humming along at a brisk pace. The marketing dick who came up with that should be neutered.

I like to keep a clean desktop. I use the start button a lot. A LOT.

I've said since the first time I even saw a video on Win8.. it's all gimmick. That whole flashy metro screen is bull shite for normal PCs, and most people who use it will turn it off. It's probably great for tablets, but hell if I want that on my desktop.

re: Windows 8 - Anyone Want Some Bugs?

I wouldn't mind the start screen if it was built for multitasking like the desktop.

I get what they are trying to do, but they just didn't do a good job.

I imagine Windows 9 will be much better just like they built on the mistakes of Vista to come out with 7.

Problem is that 8 is going to piss more people off than Vista at an exponential level.

I'm only on day 2 and I haven't really poked around much. There might be some things I will really like but haven't found yet.

re: Windows 8 - Anyone Want Some Bugs?

I am a bit miffed that my boot time is actually slower. Pretty much 100% of the reviews said the boot time was faster so something on my machine is pissing Win 8 off and slowing things down.

Another piece of stupidity. You can't use your pop3 email account in the start page.

Yes you can set up a pop3 account on the desktop using windows live mail, but it doesn't work in the start screen. Dumb. I am not going to set up a hotmail account Mr Softy.

lolwut?

What if you use IMAP instead of pop3? Or do you just mean that the email client itself doesn't work on the start screen?

Wow, you really are brave trying a new Win in Apple. I would imagine it will be some time before they have that running 100%.
