Yeah, Scorcese is probably gonna ruin my one director rule and maybe Coppola as well. I'll write, but I need to figure out my ballot first.

I know, I know. I'm dead to a lot of people for that. I just find the films...forgettable? Except for the baptism scene. Brilliant film making. The rest is assured and great, but...eh.

I'm really surprised the lack of love Chinatown is getting so far in this thread.

I've always considered it a pretty overrated movie, so not too surprised. I'd say Freauxzen leaving off Godfather would be more surprising, particularly since he made a comment about not having crappy movies make up the top 20 for the 70s. Then he goes and leaves off two movies pretty much universally considered top 20 period, much less 70s. I'm kinda surprised by the love for Aguirre: Wrath of God. It's definitely a movie that has some interesting moments and a great performance from Kinski, but it's a pretty uneven film to me, and not one I could see as the top 10 of the 70s.

I was trying to link something that did not have the movies rated but I do like how you can pull them up by genre.

That's the one I was thinking of volunteering my pompous writing skills for. Perhaps the movie itself is held in similar regard to my writing skills.

I'm also kinda surprised Animal House isn't being mentioned. No gross out party comedy has come even close to it. Everyone has tried to immitate it, but few have gotten close to getting that visionary excellence.

Held to my one director rule except for rating both Godfathers because screw you. Friedkin or Lumet was my hardest cut, but I took the French Connection over the Exorcist and Dog Day Afternoon over Serpico. 1 Godfather II 2 Godfather 3 Chinatown 4 Taxi Driver 5 Jaws 6 Star Wars 7 Clockwork Orange 8 Alien 9 Dog Day Afternoon 10 Texas Chainsaw Massacre 11 The Muppet Movie 12 Spider's Stratagem 13 Outlaw Josey Wales 14 Blazing Saddles 15 Straw Dogs 16 Enter the Dragon 17 Deer Hunter 18 Halloween 19 Aguirre Wrath of God 20 French Connection

BEEN WAITIN FOR THIS ONE! BANANADANCE! And then I actually tried to pare this down to 20. Anyway put me down as a volunteer writer. My ballot (subject to change and surely ridicule): 1. Godfather 2. Godfather 2 3. Blazing Saddles 4. Rocky 5. Serpico 6. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest 7. Animal House 8. Star Wars 9. Enter the Dragon 10. The Kentucky Fried Movie 11. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory 12. Taxi Driver 13. The Longest Yard 14. Drunken Master 15. All the President's Men 16. Young Frankenstein 17. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 18. Rocky 2 19. Brian's Song 20. Dog Day Afternoon

1) What crappy movies made my Top 20? 2) Honestly, I don't think the Godfather films are that great overall. They are missing key elements to me. If I were solely basing this on "technical and artistic accomplishment," they probably would. But it's about more than that. We've hashed this argument out on here before, so no need to repeat or ruin the thread. In short, Godfather lacks a soul, completely, and that makes it really hard for me to like it.

On 6 ballots before your post (including yours) and one below. Did you want it to be unanimous?

I wasn't surprised. But that doesn't make it hurt any less. In fact, that and your irrational hatred for all things Russell Crowe are the only things standing in the way us being best friends.

Oh, I didn't see any crappy movies on your list, I was just referring to the opposite, with Godfather being left off. But everyone's tastes are different, I'm sure many posters will disagree with us about Chinatown. I'm having hard time coming to grips with the first Godfather movie not having a soul though.

A few things that stand out to me early on 1
quote:
Dandy Lion
Does t know how to vote. 2. Chinatown is going to get the shaft. 3. It will probably come to fisticuffs for me to get to write for the Godfather(s) and Chinatown. 4. I mean they're not going to be in my top ten but I'm surprised Star Wars is getting pretty terrible results. 5. I will be complaining for the next few weeks in regards to anymore high rankings the Holy Grail gets. 6. I've already revealed two of my top 5 votes or so and I don't want to give away another because I've yet to put my list together, but another top 5 movie for me has only gotten one vote. I love the 70's for film, and I can clearly see I will be pissed this entire voting process.

Honestly, I might be afraid to write for The Godfather. That's a lot of pressure to take on the greatest movie ever made. (Suck it, Freaux )
