Windows 8 - Anyone Want Some Bugs?

I decided to jump right in...... purchased the Windows 8 upgrade.

First off, it won't take long to get used to the new system. If you don't like the metro interface, all you have to do is click the desktop tile and you are right back to the old look minus the start button.

The upgrade appears to have carried all settings over.

The first bug I've noticed involves clicking the taskbar properties. It locks up and wigs out when I try to change the settings. No blue screen or anything that bad, but it slows down blinks and finally changes the settings.

I can't use netflix in a browser. I get a DRM message. This had me really pissed because I run netflix from waking to sleeping time. I don't see any fixes, but I went to the app store and downloaded the free Netflix app which works fine so far.

Add your glitches. I will add more as they occur.

How well does it run in bootcamp on a mac?

no idea.

Another thing I don't like. I have a dual monitor setup and you can't have 2 start screens. Also, you can't run a start screen app on one monitor and then use the start screen on another monitor.

Seems more and more likely, that I will continue to use the desktop just like I did in windows 7.

It will take a while for me to see if customizing the start screen will make it more useful.

My suspicion is that most people really don't need to upgrade from Windows 7.

I've read the boot speed is much faster but mine seems to be slower.

Its amazing how people support microsoft. They'll fight you to the death if you mention stuff like this. I dont see how those people dont get upset when they release a half coded program.

I did the same, bro.

My metro UI apps wouldn't launch. The proposed fixed worked.

Unfortunately it uninstalled all of my programs. I lost 400GB of programs and save data.

Yeah I have been saying that since the first time I got my hands on it. In fact, it may be too much of a jump for XP users too.
So 7 users stay with 7
XP users migrate to 7 since support is ending for XP
8 is for touch screen devices.

Eh, I would say that 8 isn't that different from 7 once you get underneath the Metro UI and it is significantly cheaper.

The fact that you chose to keep using vista after 7 came out proves that their is no hope for you. May god have mercy upon your soul.

Didn't say I used Vista, but I'd like to see the numbers on people who still do

Really. I've seen 7 Home Premium on sale for ~$70, but lots of places still have it up for well over $100.

Windows 8 is a $40 download. I haven't seen 7 for that cheap.

You got a link for it at that price?

eta: Microsoft themselves is selling it for $120 and 8 is going for $40. I'd say 1/3 the cost is significantly cheaper.

That's just for the upgrade from XPsp2, Vista or 7.

Thats an upgrade, not a full install.

And i would say getting rid of the Start button would be a MAJOR move for someone currently running XP

$70 < $120

And I seriously doubt anybody is still rocking Windows 2000 or ME, so 90% of windows users will be able to use the $40 upgrade.

Yes, but it is no bigger a move for them than it is for someone using vista or 7? I suppose 7 is still closer than what they are used to, but not all XP users are old fogies who can't deal with change.

yes, it is.

If you are still using XP, its either you
a) need xp for a specific business application
or
b) hate change

so Id say if you are in the (b) crowd, you are really gonna hate 8. i had to spend several hours getting my mother used to 7 when i upgraded her from xp. hell i still have to remote in and show/fix something for her weekly

Windows 8 pro pack is some add-on for windows 8. I wouldn't recommend buying anything off that Microsoft Store site. Other than the upgrade sale, the prices aren't very good.

Windows 7 Pro vs Windows 8 Pro
