Actually, Jon was described looking like Ned in the last Catelyn chapter we read (Catelyn II)

A couple of really interesting things in Bran's chapter this week.
During Bran's dream he sees a man with the hideous face of a dog, a knight clothed like the sun, golden and beautiful, and a giant with stone armor but when you open his visor all there is is darkness and blood.
Clearly, the man with the face of a dog is the Hound but that is the only easy one to pick out. At first I thought the knight clothed as the sun was Jaime (due to his golden armor) but after thinking about it it could also be Oberyn Martell (due to the sigil of House Martell and the fact that Oberyn acted as the catalyst that will lead to a Hound/Frankengregor showdown). And the giant in stone armor is more than likely Gregor Clegane while the "darkness and blood" reference more than likely foreshadows his death and resurrection as Frankengregor.
What I find interesting about Bran's coma dream is that the visions are meant to make it seem as if he is only seeing current events (Catelyn on the boat traveling to Kings Landing, the "trial" of Arya in the previous chapter, Jon at the wall) but if he is also seeing the Hound, Frankengregor, and Oberyn Martell then that gives new meaning to his Jon vision as well.
His vision of Jon could very well be his death that was seen at the end of ADwD as it describes Jon as "sleeping along on a cold bed, his skin growing pale and hard as the memory of all warmth fled from him." (Page 163) I like the idea of Jon as "sleeping" and warmth "fle[eing] from him" because it shows that Jon isn't completely dead yet and thus still has time to warg into Ghost and allow for him to be later resurrected by Melisandre.
Another part of Bran's coma vision I found interesting is the raven showing Bran "past the edge of the curtain of light" which told Bran "now you know why you must be ready......because Winter is coming." If, as a couple of people believe, Bloodraven and the Children of the Forest are evil then why would the three-eyed crow (long thought to be Bloodraven) tell that to Bran after his vision into the void "terrified" him?
Because of that, I just can't get behind the idea that Bloodraven is evil.

I'm a bit behind. I just finished Tyrion's second last night but I'll get caught up. All the Jon/Arya/Ned/Stark look talk just keeps getting reinforced in this first 100 pages. It's my first reread, but with the L+R=J theory in mind, it just seems pretty obvious. Every chapter it seems Martin is throwing out a hint or two.

MFn GIMP I think you're a week ahead? Oct 17, by Sansa's chapter Bran hasn't woken up.
I think most people feel that the connections between the direwolves and the kids are pretty important parts of the story. We know what happened to Robb, and his mother's warning before what happened happened. I always feel that as long as the direwolf is ok, that kid is ok. Any theories on what that might mean for Sansa and what her future holds past book 5 considering what happened in her chapter this week?

Much of this chapter reveals Tyrion's "morbid facination with dragons". Clearly Tyrion will be connected with dragons by the end of TWOW.
So the question is, what will Tyrion's role with the dragons be?
Personally, I don't think Tyrion will be a dragon rider. I think he will be more of a dragon trainer/tamer for Dany.

That's certainly possible. Let's face it, Dragons are gonna be burning shite in TWOW.
That's not where I would go with Tyrion, though. He is actually the one Lannister that could survive in the end.
Tyrion will become an adviser to Dany, with his specialty being dragons. Recall, he is in position to save Dany's precious Daario. That should bring him into her confidence. The story needs a dragon expert and Tyrion fills that character role nicely.

Good point, he is good at developing saddles / gear and working around problems in riding.

My re-read of Tyrion II actually changed my thoughts on his ultimate fate. I've been long held the belief that all Lannisters must die (valor morgulis).
But this chapter reminds us that Tyrion is the only central character with a vast knowledge of dragons. If he develops a role as Dany's dragon adviser, then he might just live.

Looks like nobody gives a shite about this anymore, but I'm still doing the re read. I don't care.
I have a question about this week's 2nd Eddard chapter. Who was it that paid Gendry's apprentice fee? Mott gives a description but never sees a whole face. It's been too long since my first read so I don't remember the answer.

I assumed Varys. We now know him to be so much more important than we thought in the first book but it would make sense that Robert would arrange for him to handle something so delicate. Assuming Robert even knew about Gendry. If he doesn't know, still think it would be Varys, of couse he would know about Robert's bastards and where they were located.

I don't have the book with me right now, but I think Mott said all he could really tell about his facial features was that he had a goatee/beard with red in it. Was he wearing a fake beard?
