| Beaker Street . . . who listened? (Posted on 10/12/12 at 8:05 am)
Which old farts on this board remember listening to Beaker Street on KAAY out of Little Rock? It ran from the late sixties through the early seventies. It came on about 11pm and ran into the early morning hours. Clyde Clifford was the deejay and he played Floyd, Zeppelin, King Crimson, etc, before any of them ever had wide play on commercial radio. LINK A sample of some of Beaker Street intros as it would come on the air. LINK Trippy.

FWIW, KAAY is Bible beaters 24/7 now. 15 minute blocks of airtime for something like $200. Some serious lunatics on there.

That's what I've heard. Ironic. Back in the day, mega-power AM was where we could hear really cool music.

it was where you could hear 'Alice's Restaurant', 'Ballad of the USS Titanic (Jaime Brockett), or Cheech and Chong as the top of the playlist. Was a friggin powerful medium back in the day. Still is, just hard for me to comprehend anyone using AM as a primary entertainment or information medium today

Me and my buds would take a portable radio with us on campouts and dial it in. Loved listening to album cuts while getting blasted around the campfire. Brings back lots of great memories from my teens.

I am an old fart, but also an ex guitar player. I listened to Beaker Street as a teenager in the late 60's in Bastrop in North La. near the Arkansas line above Monroe. We picked up this station late at night and it was GREAT. Another late night station WLAC Tennessee played R&B,Stax, and soul late at night after 10:00. These were old stong AM stations. The one old Louisiana station like that is now Talk Radio. There was only 2 TV stations, no cable, so radio was big. Loved it.
