Exactly. Now is the time to get the independent vote by leaning middle on social issues. They are doing such a good job in fact, that my ultra-liberal GF said today she was considering voting for Romney when the mistaken story came out that he wouldn't challenge abortion laws as they exist. We can make fun of the issue all we want as a "unimportant matter", but it does matter.

If I had to choose a winner, it was Biden, but not on substance, he just over powered the debate and the mod let it happen.
I wasn't impressed with some of Ryan's responses on the economic plan, but no response is better than the Obama/Biden arse raping policy. The next person who brings up the _______ rich person only pays 15% might get a swift kick to the face. You have to be a complete fricktard to not understand what and why there is a 15% cap gains tax rate.

This is exactly right. There are many people out there that would vote for R/R if they didn't have to worry about their social issues going backwards. They are willing for it to stay static until the economy is fixed but they don't want any backsliding.
