Really? Thats an interesting way to take it...I've never thought about taking it that way. I try to make sure it hits me in the thick of the day, so I try to take mine between 11am-1pm, then it wears off about 5pm-7pm I guess is when I start to feel less awake.
When I first started the medication, my doctor suggested this method in order to find the right dose. He prescribed me 60 30mg pills the first month, so I can start with 30 and go down or up depending on side effects. Basically, mix the powder with a somewhat precise measurement of water (I always do 1 cup) and drink a fraction of it. Shire (the pharmaceutical company) says this is acceptable, but they say that the unused portion should be discarded immediately. I keep the unused portion in the fridge and it's fine. I've never stored it suspended in water like that for more than a day, so I don't know how long it would keep. It's worth noting, however, that the powder does not dissolve in the water (I guess because of the chemical properties that make it extended release). So you need to shake it well and drink it immediately before the powder settles.

It was life changing for my kid... so stop beating your head. I was the same way before (can't believe that kid is taking meds). But now, I would never second guess it. 4 may be a little young though!

Pretty bizarre how they treat kids with any kind of attention problem. Used to be treated as behavioral, not it's treated medically. You aren't helping a kid by drugging him up. You are only helping teachers and parents.

So having a hyperactive 4 year old is now cause to put her on medication? A medication that NO ONE yet knows what the long term effects on an adolescent brain are? Parents should have the right to potentially permanently alter the mind of a child because they can't handle being a fricking parent?

My kids meds open his mind... so I think of it as opposite. Without the meds, he is "drugged". With the meds, he is normal.

Read my earlier post... my kid went from hell on wheels, to the smartest kid in the whole freakin school, skipped a grade, won every award they have, etc... And I have 2 kids and the other is smart as hell too, but not on meds. If that is a long term side effect, then it sounds good to me.

Was your kid in preschool at the time?

No, and I side with you on that. We tried and tried to do all the parental stuff possible at that time. We waited until about 2nd to see the doc. And the change was immediate!!! Like a freaking light switch.

That's one insane way of looking at it. So you are saying your kids normal behavior is wrong. Drugged kids are for parents and teachers.

What if he gets to 30 yrs old and has severe heart problems? That is a legitimate concern btw.... Would it still be a justifiable decision just so he could win a few spelling bees and be the oldest kid in his class? I'm guessing your answer to that question will be no....

More power to you. No way in hell would I let them do it to a 4-5 year old kid.

4 is way too young. You really have to see some practical application like school (Past 1st grade) before you can even think about that as an option. Hard medication like this is not ment for a developing child's mind. The parents choice is what they see best for their child though. Hopefully it's right. And ANYONE can get ADD ADHD meds. I could walk in and get some addy/concerta/vyvance if I just said "I cant focus" it's money making.

He was the youngest, then he skipped a grade and is now almost 2 years younger than some. Anyway, he is on like the 2nd lowest dose possible. Not like I am pumping him silly. That little bit is all it takes. Hell, I have been on asthma medicine most of my life. If I die of lung cancer, then at least I know I could comfortably breath most of my life. (That may be a bad analogy.. oh well, best I got)

So he was originally 3 years younger than everyone in his class? Hell he wasn't ADHD he was a 3 year old in 1st grade....
