it really starts to hit its stride the 2nd half of season 1 but if you are into this genre this show is amazing. it is definitely worth the watch.

But every episode is pretty much independent of one another? They get a case at the begining if the ep and solve it by the end?

Not really - there are "Monsters of the Week" cases that start and finish in one episode, but there is also an overriding mythology that comes in to play. One of my Top 5 series. Enjoy.

It starts out a lot like that but as you get to season 2, the subplots start really kicking in. There's still monsters of the week in most episodes though. Great show

I think it is a solid show. If you liked the X-Files there are a lot of similarities. Fringe starts out with a fair bit of Monster of the Week episodes, but by the second season it tends to be a lot more of an overarching plotline, and even cases that seem standalone usually tie in.

Two episodes in I like it. Am way more interested in the overall plot than the weekly plot lines.

ignore him.. he probably thought you meant you watched this season, which still doesn't make all that much sense.. but yeah, just ignore that comment. The show is great, and only gets greater, I hope you enjoy it!

The first few episodes really did drag.. I actually watched the season 1 season finale as my first episode in fringe.. very glad I did, if I had watched it from the beginning, I probably would have never given it as much of a shot, as quick. That being said: it gets much much better as even the first season goes on - the monsters of the week start really playing into the overall story, until the most awesome reveal EVER!

No. It tried to be at first, balancing main story arc with Monster of the Week episodes, but after the first season it fully embraces being a scifi show and follows the main story arc most of the time. You really have to watch more than 2 episodes to know if you'll like it.

Good to hear, welcome aboard. It's a great show.

Then definitely keep watching, because the "overall storyline" kicks into full gear soon for you and keeps going after that. Once you get into the series there are fewer "moster of the week" episodes...those kinda change to "independent" episodes, whereas there are less mosters to figure out, but they have their own plots. However, they do a good job of tying those shows into the overall plot pretty well. Also, it can get confusing at times, so it's good that you're sort of shotgun watching the series...that should help you stay on top of what all is going on. Also, the major plotlines change a bit several times, so if you ever feel like you're not digging one, stick with it and it will eventually lead to something a little different. All in all, it's a great ride and a really fun show. So like I said, welcome aboard. Keep bumping this thread and let us know how you're progressing and what you think. If you're digging it two episodes in, you'll really enjoy the series.

Cool. I do like it, but dont know if I could get through the whole series if it was like that.

During season 1 I remember hating the Monster of the Week episodes when the main story arc seemed so much more interesting. Once they drop the unrelated MoW episodes the pace of the show really improves.
