You mention those years but forget the years Bama was screwed. Like in 1966 when they started the season ranked #1, won every game and finished ranked #3 behind two teams that tied.

First, take a look at Alabama from 1967 to 1975

From Alabama's Bowl game in 1967 to their season opener in 1975, they played only 12 games against Non-Southern teams.

Bama won only 2 of the 12 games vs Non-Southern teams going 2-9-1.

The South was lily white segregated football.

It's no surprise the voters gave it to better Northern integrated football - (such as the Michigan State team Notre Dame tied) over a mediocre country-club football conference. The SEC was not the SEC back then. Alabama dominated a insular society that wouldn't let the best players in America play and hardly ever beat teams outside of the South back then and wouldn't regularly challenge itself against better integrated teams until the 70's and then had losing records against them.

As far as I'm concerned, until the SEC was fully integrated in the late 1970's, Bama was the champion of "white football" - or lesser football...so I take those 60's titles with a grain of salt.

that has to be one of the more impressive runs, at least in the modern era

You would think it would at least be enough to make ESPN forget about how they spent 5 years telling you about USC's "dynasty".

That's great, but Miami's run was better and you have the 96 and 98 NC mixed up. 98 FSU lost by 7, 96 to Fla they got killed.

FSU from 93-00 is in the conversation.

re: Alabama 2008-2012 - How impressive would this run be?

quote:

You mean like this?

64 They win NC but lose bowl. In fairness all prior AP/UPI NC's where awarded before bowls, but Arkansas was 11-0.
65 AP decides to wait until after bowls to name NC. #1, 2 and 3 all lose, guess who is #4. Though at 9-1-1, they still had 4th best record.
73 UPI is still giving NC before bowls, so Bama splits title with Notre Dame, who beats Bama in Sugar Bowl. UPI starts naming NC after bowls the following year
78 11-1 Bama splits title with 12-1 USC who beats Bama 24-14 in Birmingham

That's just the poll titles.

There's a certain irony that Auburn is the exact opposite, getting hosed in 83 and 2004.

The greater irony is how Bama haters use examples of rival teams getting screwed over while failing to acknowledge 2 very large screw jobs that Alabama suffered.

1966 - Alabama destroys its entire schedule and set a school record for least amount of points allowed during a season. They go on to destroy Nebraska in their bowl game. Michigan State and Notre Dame play to a tie in the final game, don't go to a bowl, and Notre Dame and Michigan State are crowned national champions. Let's just say last year made up for 1966.

1977 - Even bigger screw job than 1966. Alabama's lone loss was a road opener against Top 10 ranked Nebraska by a touchdown. Alabama went on to sweep their schedule included a road win at #1 ranked USC. They also easily beat the same Ole Miss team that only a week later beat might Notre Dame. That same Notre Dame was #5 going into the Cotton Bowl and leapfrogged #3 Alabama (who beat Ohio State 35-6 in the Sugar Bowl) after beating #1 Texas.

If you're going to swallow all the garbage explanations about all of Alabama's supposedly dubious NCs then you may want to look at the times they were hosed as well.

re: Alabama 2008-2012 - How impressive would this run be?

Bama and LSU along with Florida have had the misfortune of this latest run coming at a time when the SEC has been absolutely brutal at the top. In 2008, Alabama lost to #1 Florida. In 2009, they beat #1 Florida. In 2010, they lost to the eventual national champion and in 2011 they had 2 games against the #1 ranked team in the country. In other words, 4 of Alabama's 6 losses in the last 5 seasons have come against either the #1 or #2 ranked team and/or the eventual national champion which is a ridiculous stat when you think about it. Only the 2010 losses to South Carolina and LSU were not against either the #1 or #2 ranked team.

Let me guess, 1977?

Sorry, you didn't get shafted in 77 just because ND jumped you in the final poll. They killed #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl plus you both played USC, they beat them 30, you beat USC by 1.

WRONG!!! We both also played Ole Miss and Bama beat them by more than 2 TDs while Notre Dame lost to them by a TD.

Not a screw job

Please explain to me how the team with a better record against 3 common opponents wasn't screwed over?

Notre Dame and Alabama common opponents that year:

USC - Alabama barely won at USC, Notre Dame won big at home against USC

Miami - Alabama and Notre Dame both won by over 35 points

Ole Miss - Alabama won by 24 while Notre Dame lost by 7

Notre Dame beat #1 Texas handily. Alabama beat Top 5 Ohio State 35-6. Other than the 3 common opponents it looks like a tie to me with Alabama with the better record against common opponents.

Alabama didn't even play the best team in their conference, Kentucky.

ND beat #19 Clemson, #8 Pitt #13 USC and #4 Texas
Bama beat #11 Ohio State #13 USC

ND had a much tougher schedule and beat better teams its really that simple.

Gotta love the hypocrisy of bitching and downplaying all of Alabama's titles while acting like Alabama fans are stupid for even bringing 1977 up. How dare a fanbase suggest they have a claim on a year where they had a better record against common opponents and destroyed their bowl opponent as the #3 team when #1 and #2 lost. "But, but, but Notre Dame had a tougher schedule...forget the fact that they got housed by a team Alabama blew out..... "

You might also consider reading the whole thread since I addressed both of these seasons.

1966: Both Notre Dame and MSU dominated their schedules as well. If MSU wins 13-10, they would clearly be #1, since they tied why should both drop?
quote:

Let's just say last year made up for 1966.

66 was karma for 65, you owe for 2011

quote:

1977 - Even bigger screw job than 1966

The vaulted you because they dominated the undefeated #1 team and you dominated a team that already had 2 losses.

Even if you want to count those a screw jobs, you are still plus 2 with 64, 65, 73 and 78. And we're not even getting into the biggest bull shite title of all, 1941.

Alabama fans griping about hypocrisy and getting screwed is rich.

Oh and Notre Dame lost to Ole Miss by 7, that's hardly getting housed :

Miami has had similar runs, Florida State as well. They had a couple of years with only 1 loss to the #1 or #2 team by a late missed FG only they never got a rematch.
