Bankston, but he doesn't do backs. Anyone in his practice is great, in my experience.

If you can, get out of LA if you need surgery. The risk of letting the doctors in this state operate is too high. Unless the procedure is very simple I would not even consider staying in the state.

How long have you done physical therapy/conservative treatment? And what kind of procedure are they talking about doing? Fusion of some sort or is it one of the minimally invasive procedures where they are just cleaning up a disc? And what's the issue with your disc? Is it just bulging/herniated and causing back pain or are you having radiating leg pain/weakness as well?

Dr. Leoni in Lafayette did my brother's back. He was referred to me by multiple clients of mine that are also doctors. I also have a friend whose sub-specialty is spinal issues in Houston.

If you stay in Baton Rouge, Kelly Scrantz neurosurgeon. Hank Eiserloh is a pretty good ortho spine guy. You don't need to go out of state

This. Bankston's entire office is well educated and well run as they have had numerous LSU football players through there over last 10 yrs.

My mom has worked for bankston for the last 10+ years. It was difficult moving to Oklahoma and losing such a great doctor.

Let me add that not only are the Dr's and their staff great but the surgery center they use in the building(separate entity) is fantastic. It can seem factory-like for outpatient stuff but they have a damned fine system and try not to waste your whole day(and your family who comes along).

Depends. You want McCarthy for your back and Scrantz for neurosurgery.

Not necessarily true. If you have a specialized ortho surgery you need, and they may not be experienced in that surgery, they will still try to do it even though there is a specialist in that exact surgery 60 miles away. Lesson learned, always go for the specialist in what you are having done.

I did PT for about 2 months, and have continued the exercises and stretching for about 6 months. MRI showed a bulging disc, pain has been radiating down my leg into my calf. Not sure what procedure they would perform, just want to see what my options are. Pain is almost unbearable now and I'm getting desperate. edit: 2 back injections didn't do much at all.

I agree with this. Bankston operated on my mother and made her condition significantly worse and forced us to go out of state to fix it.
