| Beer reps... (Posted on 10/9/12 at 2:57 pm)
Is anyone on here a beer rep, ever been a beer rep or know any beer reps? Did you/they enjoy it? How much do those guys typically bring in? I'm thinking about testing the waters...

I know a few... my uneducated assumption is that it's a lot of work and odd hours for mediocre pay, but you also have the potential to work in a field you're really passionate about.

technically you aren't a beer rep per se. you work for a distribution company, but you have no say in what they bring in. you just push product to stores. you push the company agenda and move shite. Unfortunately it entails lugging cases, kegs, and doing some dirty work. It's really not that glamorous and very unrewarding from what i hear. And i say this because i have known many.

Bro in law is a wine rep. Cush job to say the least. Works from home and makes 6 figures. All he does is monitor his stores and his crew of account reps

I know a bunch of people who work for Glazer's. They like their job. They don't making a killing but they make enough to enjoy life. Know a few beer guys, too. Seems to be more turnover in beer. Again, they do alright. Most are young and only a few years out of school.

Go into liquor or wine. Used to work for a beer distributor and hated it.

I've got friends that are reps for a major bourbon company and the other a vodka company. Odd hours but decent pay. When one considers the perks like company car and whatnot they are both in six figures.

Know quite a few. More money in wine and liquor. Most lower level is based on commission. Plus, you have to work your way up to the better accounts. Once you move up in the companies it can pay quite nice. Plus, can be a really cool gig.

I got 2 buddies that work for Republic, 1 in NOLA, 1 in BR. They both like it but you have to manage your commissions correctly. The holiday seasons are your busiest.

I believe beer reps for mockler make in the range of 8 cents per case sold. Really depends on the area you are assigned to if you make good money or not. I think you spend more time setting up displays and lugging around neon signs rather than selling product. Not the job for me.

Yes. Every person I know that works, or has worked, as a liquor rep has been a friend hire.

I have a friend that is a wine rep for Republic here in Lafayette. You pretty much don't see her during the holiday seasons.
