Not true. And no, one cannot use deadly force during every assault or battery. the fact the officer retreated and was followed by the victim weighs heavily in the officers favor in justifying this killing.

Stop being stupid.
First of all firing at a moving target isny as easy oh heres one in the leg now stop reisitng .
Second of police are trained to shoot to kill not to wound.
Third of all drugs like lsd amp a persons adreneline giving them almost super human strength a tazer or baton would have been worthless here.
Hope that any lawsuir is summarily dismissed.

Can't really tell by the article, but I think if the cop truly thought his or other peoples lives were at stake, then it was justified. We need to see the video.

The main thing that bothers me is the fact that this was "CAMPUS SECURITY" and the officer had to of known (or at least suspected) this was a student. It's not like the officer was cornered in a dark alley in Prichard. I said this in the previous thread, but I don't think the officer exhausted every option before pulling the trigger. I believe the officer felt threatened. I also believe the officer would act differently if he could do it over again. I think it was an error in judgement by the officer and obviously the student. Both sides were at fault. It's a terrible situation for everyone involved.

The officer should have had a non lethal form of defense
i know the officer and imo he is not very professional..though i fully support usapd
how can they convict the person who sold collar the drugs of murder?

Bad situation all around.
Feel sorry for the kid and his family. But cops don't fool around if they feel threatened or see someone in danger. Regardless of suspect's age, student, obviously on drugs, etc..

I can see both sides of the argument. I'd bet if the officer was asked, in complete confidentiality with no legal repercussion, he would say he made a mistake. Bottom line, the punishment didn't fit the crime.

Yep..and to all the people saying lethal force was needed bc he was high..how could the officer differwntiate him being high as a kite or incredibly drunk? Ive seen drunks do more idiotic things than this
Collar had no weapons. The officer should have had used non lethal forms of defense before ultimately shooting him..if the usapd is not supplanted with these items then that is the fault of the pd..they have camaros but cant afford a taser? and yes i am aware of tge price tag on a taser
