Romney takes lead in the RCP Average

Sorry if already posted....but for the first time in 2012, Romney has overtaken Obama in the RCP Average. Symbolically, I think this is huge for Romney. The mere fact that he's viewed as the frontrunner now could generate even more momentum.

Then again, if he lets Obama gain any traction in the next two debates, he'll probably have the outside lane on Election Day.

won't matter. unless Obama can somehow miraculously start polling around 55% and higher, this election is over.

To much theft already in process.

Romney's margin has to be too big to steal.

I couldn't think of a better time for Romney to peak?

Absentee voting is going on now with the GOP outperforming '08 in virtually every state minus Iowa

historically the first debate has more viewership than the others. anyone have any figures for that? I'd be curious to see just how many people will watch Obama try to right the ship.

The problem is, any sort of "tie" will be viewed and touted as an Obama win. Even more so after his arse whipping the other night.

Romney has to destroy him in every debate for him to really "win".

I dont' see it happening in foreign policy.

Obama will slap Romney hard at least a couple of times in the Town Hall debate, with Romney detractor Candy Crowley beaming proudly.

Romney will have to (1) be mentally ready for that (2) not let it shake the strong self-confidence he displayed in the first debate (3)not let himself get suckered into a bickering-over-nothing contest, but rather consistently bring Obama back to the main issues (4) do better than he usually does in the close-audience, walking-around-while-answering environment of the Town Hall format and this time (5) stay away from "cute" comments, a la Big Bird. He showed himself to be human in the first debate and cleared away that false image. Now he has to look and act "presidential" and be all-business the rest of the way. Let Obama play the "cool guy" role. Be the adult in the room that comes across as understanding that electing a President is a serious matter.

Continue to earn respect, while Obama continues to earn "I'm-your-neighbor" cred.

At this time, the former will count for far more than the latter. The economy and the Middle East shite is about to hit the fan, and I don't want my neighbor living in the White House and wooing the women of America on The View. I want a guy in there who is boring and focused on the task at hand - running the country, and as an actual leader, not a traveling cheerleader.

Pretty amazing that just a week ago, the media narrative was that Obama had essentially already won the race...they were wondering why Romney had run such a poor campaign.

I agree that he should probably not drop any more big bird lines, but I think the sudden obsession of CBS funding by the Obama campaign will do more damage to their image among undecideds

Romney's message in that debate was "here's my plan, my opponent doesn't really have a plan."

The obama campaign's response for the past week has been "Oh really, well YOU DON'T LIKE BIG BIRD!!!!!"

Their infatuation with his PBS line demonstrably proved exactly what Romney was saying in the debate. They are focusing on Big Bird because it is literally the BEST they have.

Undecided voters don't give two shits about PBS/Big Bird, but that is exactly what the Obama campaign has spent their money and energy on for the past week. People recognize this.

JohhnyKilroy, I don't disagree with the points you made in your response to me in the post just above this one.

I was glad Romney said he wanted to discontinue the PBS subsidy, even though it's a drop in the bucket. It's a symbolic move to show that wasting money is wasting money, even in relatively small amounts, and that all spending should be scrutinized. I just personally think he could have made his point about PBS without the Big Bird reference. He had nothing to gain by throwing that in there.

100% agree.

Romney had nothing to gain with this reference.

I'm just saying that Obama has a lot to lose if he continues to make this a significant point of his campaign.

He has a habit of doing that, remember wanna bet $10,000 or I have friends that own nascar/NFL teams. He has some issue there, where he thinks he is being cute but comes off, not as cute.

You think they havent focused grouped this? I bet they have, and they obviously think they have a winner. Or at least a way to change the narrative.

I suspect there will be some follow ups on big bird in the townhall debate and the biden/ryan debate.

Finally i will say that obama is going to go very aggressive on the FP front, lambasting romney for being pro war with iran. and chest beating for osama. Should be entertaining.

Obama definitely has th eadvantage in the Town Hall forum. I was pissed tha tRomney got off the social Security question and got into the bickeirng about Medicare.

I want him to stay on the big topics and not get into the little details. Stay focused on the debt, the jobs, and the future.

well the media doesn't really vote and they are in the tank anyway.

I suspect it will be dropped once they get some jabs in on ryan. We will see.
