I suspect most of the stories are of poorly placed shots, and of no fault of the mechanical head.

Let's be honest here, outdoor enthusiast live a life on that .005% chance of what if's in life of why this product could be better than this one or this bullet over this one or this gun because of this type of feature thats all pie in the sky bunch of excuses of this and that. The efficiency and reliability of a fixed over a mechanical broad head is real. I don't judge those people but I sure as hell look down upon them.

This happened to you? If so, you're doing it wrong. If not, you're just making shite up like all the other small-brained mech haters. It's truly sad we have so many here who apparently just cannot think for themselves.

I tracked a deer that my cousin shot with a rage (quartering away) and one of the blades broke at the rib. The blade was stuck between the bone where it broke and the lungs had a 1 inch cut. It was pretty obvious what happened. It doesn't take a masters in engineering to know that an unsupported 1 inch piece of steel isn't going to be as strong as a 1/2 inch piece of supported steel.

I have tracked a deer that was shot by a rage that didn't open. Fortunately it was shot through the heart and we found it. Did the guy "do it wrong?" I don't know, but he's a master electrician that owns his own business so I figure he has enough sense to use a Rage broadhead.

I bought a pack of rages when I still shot meat seekers and they rattled and would deploy in my quiver. I never shot one at a deer and gave them away.

I'm not making shite up and I don't know how I "could be doing it wrong" when I took them out of the package, screwed them onto my arrows and put them in a quiver designed for mechanicals, which I might add, had no issues with the Meat Seekers.

Hate to hear about you losing the deer, but that's just part of it unfortunately. I went a long time without losing any then I lost 2 within a week. Found one the next day but the coyotes had chewed her up. Wasn't a bad shot just didn't get the pass thru, broadhead was lodged in front shoulder, 1" to either way and I would have been fine.

Oh, and if you aint shooting Nugent blades you're a pussy.

You have that backwards. Mechs do all the fixed do, with more accuracy and wider cut. It's really not even a fair fight. Fixed would not even be made now if it weren't for the myth believers.

Link please...

Thats like saying my .270 killed that deer deader than your 30-06.

With the technology and equipment being used today reliability and effciency is a wash.

yes, lets compare results of fixed blades vs mechanical blades since the beginning of time.

ETA: Geauxt, you are a great hunter despite your mechanical heads, not because of them.

The only deer I've actually hit i shot her with a thunderhead fixed 100 grain at 38 steps. She ran 30 yards but its all about shot placement.

Never shot or shot at a deer with mechanicals but I have em. Rage

I have killed 9 deer with fixed blades

I have released the trigger release on 11 deer in that period of time. the 9 i recovered were good to fair shots.
The 2 that got away were shot high in the nomans land.i dont give a rats arse what head you shoot. You hit em high. You will not find them dead.

I like my chances with the Fixed blade.

Accuracy differences are negligible in my opinion.

bow hunting for 4 years.

shot a 4 point 3 years ago and a doe this past saturday.

that's my only two after many, many hunts.

eta: i've had opportunities to kill does with young fawns and yearlings.. chose not to shoot in these situations.

Shot what you have confidence in and enjoy it...fixed or mech...

Shot placement and point of entry is key when bow hunting...you get these two things right and your deer will be piled up a short distance away...

If that had been my experience, I probably would not have switched. In any event, the Steelhead is the finest head ever made, fixed or mech. It just really could not be any better.

Chad, don't on page 1 of this thread you admit to never killing a deer with a bow?
