as far as UF and Auburn defenses go, were they too strong and not have enough weaknesses for us to exploit? not one?

certainly against Auburn, turnovers and penalties were much bigger factors than their D. Some of the playcalling vs. Florida made no sense, but mistakes were still costly. But breaking down the opposing D isn't Les' deal...he's certainly not the only coach that doesn't do that though, Mike Leach has said he just worries about running his offense and not what the other team does on defense.

i get what you're saying, but i'm not really railing on les as much as i'm railing on stud/krag.

someone's gotta see some deficiencies on the opposing defense to exploit, especially if nothing's working. in-game adjustments, something.

and Leach? hell, dude doesn't give a shite about anything else, much less a defense.

i'd say they've developed better offensive skill guys, but they haven't necessarily had better talent on O.

I would say they've had more talent on offense during those years...Mallet/Wilson >>> Lee/Jefferson.

I agree with the QBs. But, Les is this great recruiter and those are the QBs he went and got. And, Wilson wasnt a big time recruit like Mallet. Arkansas was the only SEC school that offered him and hes from Arkansas. JJ was a bigger national recruit and so was Lee. Wilson developed under Petrino, which is something Miles cant do. Miles cant develop QBs or a passing attack.

Saban and Jimbo had how much influence?
Plenty.

by taking an NFL job?

I wish I could "bow out" with a career advancing promotion.

quote:

Jimbo's O sucks hind teat to '07 and '11 in scoring O.
Except we basically ran Jimbo's O in 2007.

I thought everyone knew that.

quote:

Asked if he's ever had as talented an offense at his disposal before, Crowton hesitated before replying, "Let's just say I'm happy with what I've got." LSU retained the same base offense it ran under Fisher, but Crowton, a spread-offense practitioner, has added his own influence, primarily the extensive use of the shotgun, in which Flynn seemed to flourish.

"Some guys are only comfortable in one or the other," said Crowton. "That's been the nice thing with Matt, he's comfortable in both -- under center or the shotgun -- which gives us versatility."

I'll say it again. you guys are as crazy as it gets. the object of the game is to win. miles wins. mullen has won nothing. so how do you know how good a coach he is? ok, his teams look good and disciplined when they lose. mullen doesn't have talent because he can't recruit for shite. with all the success he had at florida he should be able to get a few good players. arkansas was a top 10 team under petrino and arkansas didn't have the best players in the sec. mullen has won 1 sec west game (excl. ole piss) in 3 years and you guys say, fire last year's national coach of the year and hire mullen. that just plain crazy.

talent wise? No.

But they probably have had better coaching.

running backs
Again, not talent-wise. . .but definitely performance-wise.

So Crowton/Flynn/Doucet/Byrd executed Fisher's offense better than Fisher/Russell/Bowe/Davis...

He cant get the talent because hes at fricking Moo State. Have you been to Starkville? Have you seen the facilities they got? Some of the worst in the country. In 2010,Moo St team went 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the SEC including victories over Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Mississippi, and the 4 losses came only to teams ranked in the Top 12. Hes done a lot of great things with inferior talent at a school that has had 0 tradition and they spend the least amount of $$$ on athletics than just about every other school in the SEC.

One question...LSU leads BCS schools and SEC schools in wins since 05.

How can that equate to "underachieving"?

Les is 2-3 against Arkansas with Bobby P

I thought BP was at Ark. 4 yrs.

O yea your right. That other loss was against Houston Nutt. My bad. Thanks for showing me that. Proves my point even more.

Well, that might be somewhat understandable, if we weren't doing the meerkat, and struggling with getting our calls or personnel in consistently over the past 5 years. Kind of oxymoronic, isn't it?

Come to think of it. Kind of explains us perfectly. Miles doesn't care about breaking down the opposing D, but spends time staring back and forth before running the play he's already called.

Even teams that don't match up physically with us have managed to use scheme to their advantage over the years. For those teams that do match up, the recipe is simple. Make them play pitch and catch. We can't do it.

We became a better running team in 07.

We fell off in the passing game.

2007 we ranked 58th with 225 a game.

2006 we ranked 18th with 251 per.

We ran the ball well, and saw some improvement there.

We scored 5 more ppg in 2007, largely thanks to 2 high-scoring triple overtime losses to unranked teams.

That's my main beef with the offense, the "philosophy" is fine, but you have to use scheme to create advantage, you can't expect every player to win every play. This is really the only difference in Bama's offense and LSU's, they do a good job of using motion to create a mis-match, or using the little pick play to create an open receiver, or crossing routes, screens, etc. Those plays aren't complex, but have little elements that put players in better position to make plays.

Never said they were scrubs. And call me crazy, but im pretty sure we had NFL players all over the field in 2007 too. Yep, we did.
