Houston. Underrated compared to Austin, which is so overrated.
No kidding, man. Me and all my friends here in Austin are constantly saying, "If we could only live in Houston, that would be awesome."

San Francisco Seattle New York Washington DC Austin Portland Nashville Denver I love New York as a city right now, but I miss overall quality of life in San Francisco more. Although with Zynga/Twitter all moving into SF itself rent is starting to get pretty atrocious.

Oh, YOU and your friends are in Austin? Nevermind, that makes it the best place on earth! No need for sandy vagina. Austin gets pumped up as something special, and there really isn't that much more going on than any other decent sized town. Houston gets hated on by people who have probably never been there. Austin vs. Houston is the definition of overrated vs. underrated. My opinion is regarding perception.

In the villages area around Bear Lakes. My office is downtown. It's a great time to own a rental property with all these foreclosures.

That it is. I was lucky to sell out before the market went to hell on a couple of larger properties, but the rental unit is doing great. Had some good times down there, and still have great friends there, but we wanted to move north to get back to the south.

Almost 6 pages and no Raleigh/Durham? I loved that place when I visited. Is it a bad place to live?

Amen to that. Austin is fun and all, but it ain't nothing special. I know some people see it as Mecca. I don't understand. Oh, they have live music and some parks and rivers and hills? So do half of the cities in this country. My vote is for Nashville, but I admit I'm biased as I grew up there and am just waiting on my girlfriend to get out of school and move back up there.

Austin is always on the top of the list when it comes to top places to live for young professionals. Tons of stuff to do and great job market.

I moved out to get the hell away from BR too and came to DC. Best decision I ever made, it's great for young professionals and the economy is never bad. There are lots of other solid choices though. Austin rocks, and I understand NYC does too. Denver, Seattle, and others I'm sure others have covered.

"hey i really love these detroit winters." said NO frickING PERSON EVER. i've traveled the country multiple times. been in all states of the continental US at different seasons. midwestern winters are beautiful, for the first day. and then they beat the living shite out of you. move west. san diego, los angeles. move east. the triangle in north carolina is really nice. don't move northwest unless you can stand being in gray drizzly raing all day, every day, 11 months a year. don't move northeast unless you have a ton of money.
