What are your experiences with things like Deer Cane and other liquid/powder based attractants? The deer in my lease love the Deer Cane and dig holes trying to get to the stuff.

Same. We put some of the original deer cocaine out (before they changed the name) and we had these giant holes all over where the animals were trying to get at this stuff.

I've not used it much, but probably because I never had success with it. I use rice bran treated with a little BB2 or Acorn Rage if I do something other than plain deer corn.

A lot of the powders are nothing more than rice bran.

Go to a pool supply store and buy soda ash. My dad ran some deer cane through a chromatograph at his work and found it was 99.7% soda ash. Soda ash can be bought in a 50 lb sack for the same price as a pound of the "deer cane."

I poured it out once and had zero activity where I poured it for over two weeks, so I moved my camera and haven't checked back since. It was on a deer trail too and I had several deer walk right over where I put it without even stopping to sniff it.

The exact reason I go buy a 50 lb bag of rice bran for $10 instead of a 5 lb bag of Acorn Rage for $10.

I've tried rice bran too, hearing that it was the next best thing to plain corn, but nothing ate it plus it got very moldy after it got wet.

Mine was a white powder that you mixed in a 5gal bucket with water and poured it out. It came in a large orange box with a bag liner. Whatever it was it drove them crazy. This was before the days of game cameras or if they had them out we weren't aware of them with our poor folk selves.

It's amazing how we all hunt the same species of animal in nearly the same climate and location type yet my herd of deer eat what other's do not and vice versa

It takes the deer a bit of time to get on the rice bran, that's for sure. To your point it's also going to mold/mildew if it gets wet. I half way fill up a five gallon bucket with bran and pour it out in a long line.

Some of the feed stores in central AR are selling a concoction of rice bran, corn, and peanut butter flavor/scent. I haven't tried it yet, but a guy at work swears by it.
