I was surprised to see in that article that Chuck Todd works for NBC. From the tone and content of his previous TV appearances I always assumed he worked for Obama.
Wait, never mind. If he works for NBC he DOES work for Obama.

I wouldn't call their polls slop, but rather polls that lack the rigor of more scientific polls. In the long run their lack of cell phone interviews will be a problem. But calling cellphones is expensive.

You're missing the HUGE distinction.
Politicians and voters on the right have dismssed the polls. That's politics. Everybody understands that.
This is a JOURNALIST dismissing a poll that is not favorable to Obama. A poll, btw, that was more accurate than NBC's poll in the last election.
Have we just given up on assuming neutrality on the part of the press?

I mean when you can do a poll for like $600 (last time I heard a price quote about them this was it) that's cool, but they just need to understand that their polls really aren't that scientific.
BIG fan of Pew polls, regardless of what the PID is and regardless of who is ahead. They do a great job.

How many of the cell phone only households are likely voters? I could be off but thinking its very low % of the voting population.

Well they make up 30% of the population and are different than than those with landline phones in significant ways so even if only 1/3 were deemed likely to vote that is still a chunk of the population that you won't be reaching.

I'd like to know that. My own household is cell only and my wife and I always vote.
I have a number of friends and at least one family member that is cell only.
I would be curious to know. I think it is trending that direction

Most of my friends are cell phone only. Almost all will vote. One might not, but she voted in 2008. Only reason we have a landline is b.c of my job. If I changed jobs, we would ditch the landline.

I get it. And yes I think we've been groomed to throw out any neutrality.
Laura Ingram, Hannity, the other blonde lady on fox(don't know her name) and the guy in the middle of the 5 are the same way. I don't listen to a word they say. Most others at FOX are pretty damn good.

I saw earlier a stat that Rasmussen was most accurate in '08 while NBC's poll was 13th

Florida? Wrong
Indiana? Wrong
North Carolina? Wrong
Ohio? Wrong
Those were states he picked McCain or a Tie that was at least 4 points off. I can give him a pass on Nevada because the election was basically called for Obama and tweaked the end result. Still, why do people hang their hats on 1 poll? I think Ras is a good poll but it needs to be placed within the context of multiple polls, hence RCP Avg.

Yeah, they didn't do great at the state level at all if I recall correctly.
I've been a fan of RCP and Pollster for years. I still look at them, but also look at 538 because what they do is much more complex (in some ways) and I prefer the layout. Can't stand having to go to HuffPo to see Pollster.

The thing about state polls is the body gets smaller, but the question remains the same size.
Polls are good at giving broad, general indicators.
The smaller the pool that is represented, the more likely it will be wrong.
