Drive and initiative will lead to success where as intelligence will not. I happen to think the two are one in the same. Just because you memorized and can recite a sonnet does not make you intelligent in my eyes.

I agree 100%. Drive an initiative are totally unrelated to intelligence. By the way memorizing sonnets is only necessary for a B.A...

But, seriously, I prefer my SO to be very educated and very intelligent. The worst thing is dating someone that you think is stupid. It makes you seem condescending and witchy.

If she's intelligent then she knows her purpose as a household wife, no degree needed for that.

so if you met a young, intelligent, ambitious professional, but no college degree, you would not allow this person into your little social circle?

I think you're right that it depends on the person.. because I 100% believe you that your wife is intelligent and fits in just fine with formally educated family members.

I guess it just seems that GENERALLY speaking, those who did not go to college don't have a lot in common with those who did.. at least in my age group that seems to be the case.

Of course, a lot of my insight comes from the fact that most uneducated people I know are from Central, had children at 18, never leave the town, and have no concept of the world outside. I am aware that does not mean all uneducated people are like that

oh I completely agree, and I shared the same feelings as AngryBeavers when I was younger, but the more people I meet in the professional world, the more I realize how many truly successful people there are without any type of formal education
