what if they've set and completed other goals?

I was wondering when someone was going to make that point.

Such as? I have never met a female plumber, electrician, or any other kind of trade worker. I am not sure what other goals you could be referring to? Maybe a restaraunt owner or something?

just an example

my wife started as a regular associate within her company, and moved up to Regional Manager within 5 years

all without a college degree

I would say that was setting a goal and accomplishing it

I agree. The two things are not even directly related.

Why not have all of the above?

anything

college isn't the only goal and doesn't make sense for a lot of people

what if she liked to sew and opened her own boutique that sold baby dresses that she made?

passion was working out so started a gym?

self employed wedding planner?

caterer?

some of you need to learn to think outside the box because the supply of college grads far outweighs the demand

This is what most college degrees represent to me and I believe it is a great barometer to measure both drive an initiative. on another note I knwo many college graduates that are not terribly intelligent. The real question should be do you want someone with drive and initiative or someone who is intelligent. I certainly would prefer all of the above if available.

Intell. is more imortant to me...GENERALLY their education will have something to do with their employment and I don't care to hear about their work..Money is what is most important, if she is loaded IDGAF what she has or doesn't have...I can hear her drone on about something complex or high heels as long as she is rich..

Did she start working there with that goal or did she just need a job out of high school and didn't have any better options?

You bring up a great point. There are many families that simlpy don't have the means to send a child to college and there are other unique cases, I know you like those, that require the teen to stay home and take care of someone rather than go off to school.

Drive and initiative will lead to success where as intelligence will not. I happen to think the two are one in the same. Just because you memorized and can recite a sonnet does not make you intelligent in my eyes.

she began working there with the idea to move up within the company if she liked it, so yes

Well that's great for her and she obviously fits into your social circle but she probably would not fit into mine and I would never meet someone in that situation to date.
