TCU QB leaving team following DWI

just got the text

quote:

TCU quarterback Casey Pachall has left school and will seek care at a drug and alcohol treatment facility, coach Gary Patterson said.

Patterson said Pachall has an opportunity to enroll in the spring semester and rejoin the team.

"We want to make sure we can make this turn into a positive," Patterson said. "Casey's parents, Casey and I, we all agreed that there was only one way to change the path he was on - to step away from it."

Last week, Patterson suspended Pachall from competition after the junior's arrest early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Pachall did not play in the Frogs' 37-23 loss to Iowa State last week.

Pachall started every game in 2011, setting TCU records for yards and completions. He was off to a good start in 2012 as the Frogs won their first four games.

In July, a police report revealed that Pachall admitted to police that he had failed a Feb. 1 team-issued drug test. Later in February, four players, including Pachall's roommate Tanner Brock, were kicked off the team after being arrested for selling drugs in a campus-wide drug bust. Pachall told police that he had tried cocaine and ecstasy in the past.

A buddy of mine at work who went to TCU heard that when he got his DWI, there was also cocaine in the car and he just failed yet another drug test.

I'm still completely confused by this. What prompted him to admit to this. It was irrelevant to the bust that was happening.

It's like getting pulled over for speeding and admitting that you've sped before and run numerous red lights and stop signs in the past.

There was no cocaine in the car and the only drug test he failed was in February.

You guys with the and the are a bunch of idiots. Maybe your not old enough to know anyone with an addiction problem yet... but sometime in your lives - you will.

I, for one, thinks it reflects well on the program that the school has taken the steps it has to help this kid get his life straightened out. This isn't a 3 tests failed Honey Badger situation. He's just failed one and he knows he's welcome to return to TCU next year where hopefully he'll be ready to shove a few touchdowns up your asses.

I'm still drunk from Saturday night. Should I quit my job and go to rehab.

I get the feeling you have a job you're allowed to be drunk at.

At first I was like Joe Kane from the movie the Program, but you hope the guy gets his life together.

Oh yeah, let me feel so sympathetic towards a 21 year old who is addicted to alcohol, none of us have any idea what that is like.

I guess you know his family or something considering the spin job on your story. That's cool, dude put his own life and others at risk and now has to DWI.

1. Not a guy

2. Don't know him or his family

3. Have seen people with addictions try to overcome them

4. Not looking for sympathy on his behalf... Just saying that and are kneejerk reactions of people who have no clue.

5. I respect that you have strong feelings about the subject and that shows a lot more maturity than many in this thread.

I'll assume since I did not or , that your post did not apply to me.

Regardless, it's a freaking dog and pony show. He fricked up. The Patterson and him are trying to figure out how to deal with this while minimizing his impact to TCU football and the QB's future. They'll put him in rehab to stay PC (highly unlikely that he's a raging alcoholic at 21...especially as a star athlete). They'll say he's recovered and he's all better. He comes back with minimal impact to everyone and including himself.

It's stupid. He fricked up and should be off the team. Most people get fired from their jobs for DWIs and drug posessions. Why is he any different?

yep, and he is.

Not really. In fact many large companies do their best to not drug test their employees any longer becasue it is so pervasive.

Becasue he is a young athlete that has the oppurtunity to do great things. He has a support system not available to many due to his age, parents, abilities, and university support. Why should he not use that to his full advantage to improve himself?
