| Eastwood's empty chair, the New Yorker cover, the Obama-as-Costanza meme (Posted on 10/9/12 at 12:46 pm)
I never thought I'd see the day when popular culture began to mock Obama. Every other president in my lifetime has received that kind of treatment, but the media kept their hands off of Obama for whatever reason. Until now. I actually feel better about America's future than I did a month ago.

Recall the episode of Seinfeld when George would come up with his 'great retort' (the jerk store called...they are running out of YOU) AFTER the board meeting in which his enemy kept besting him? Obama, the day AFTER the debate, had all of his retorts to Romney's schooling.

Obama is now hammering Romney over what he said at the debate. Instead of slinging these zingers DURING the debate and putting it to Romney, he is now slinging them a week later using a teleprompter in front of supporters. IE - Costanza's "jerk store" quip that he couldn't think of until he left the meeting. ETA: BHP beat me to it.

quote:
George exhibits a number of negative character traits, among them stinginess, selfishness, dishonesty, insecurity, and neurosis. Many of these traits stem from a dysfunctional childhood with his squabbling parents Frank and Estelle, and often form the basis of his involvement in various plots, schemes, and awkward social encounters. Episode plots frequently feature George manufacturing elaborate deceptions at work or in his relationships in order to gain or maintain some small or imagined advantage or (pretend) image of success. He had success in "The Opposite", in which he begins (with Jerry's encouragement) to do the complete opposite of what his instincts tell him to do, which results in him getting a girlfriend and a job with the New York Yankees.

On topic: Though there will be MANY who point to very negative ideas, IF Mr. Obama is not re-elected, I think it is a very positive sign: 1) A black man can get elected to the Presidency of the United States. That really is a WOW moment. 2) That same black man can be judged on his performance and replaced if it is found to be lacking. That, also, is a WOW circumstance. Progress is judging a person by the content of his performance in office.
