I think there's a big gap between Cochon and everybody else in Lafayette in quality of cooking and ingredients. It's head and shoulders above the rest. French Press, Pamplona, Jolie's, then RC are probably next.

what's the name of the old place not far from vermillionville area that used to have the huge mailbox in front of it _______ House, i believe old school old Lafayette money place. pretty sure it is not open anymore

Blair House. And, no, it's not open any more. I personally think French Press is, hands down, the best restaurant in Lafayette. Charley G's, Pamplona, Village Cafe and Cochon (in no particular order) would round out the top 5. Jolie, while I like Manny (the chef) personally, really underwhelms.

For me its Cafe Vermilionville. French Press is good and so is Jolie's Charlie G's is probably one of the top all time restaurants on my Highly Overrated list. Prejeans has not been really decent in about 6 years.

correct it was a big deal when my parents took me there for a birthday steak with lump crabmeat on top was so good
