| Anybody hunt Tunica Hills (Posted on 10/8/12 at 3:48 pm)
Looking to venture out and go bow hunt some public land. I know Tunica has some good deer on it. I have a couple buddies that go down there every year and have some success. I know that land is fairly harsh and unforgiving, but hard work will pay off. My question is this.. Are there primitive camp grounds on both the north and south tracts? I am looking to do a 4 or 5 day camping trip. Yes, in a real live tent, not that RV pussy shite. Which tract is better for hunting? Any info or discussion is appreciated

There is a primitive campground on the South Tract off of Parker Road. Nothing for camping on the north tract, but it's not a long truck ride to access the north from the campground. As far as which side is better to hunt, its really up to you. I would pick one area in either tract to focus on. The south is much larger than the north. If you're interested in killing some hogs, the north is probably better for you.

Tracts are across the road from each other. Don't know about the camping, but I'm sure they have a spot somewhere. I always hunted South tract. Guy doing masonary work for my company was on front of LASM with a monster he killed there and thats the area he always hunted. Buddy killed a nice 8 and I killed a doe and after getting them I out, I retired from shooting deer on that place. Bring plenty rope and a come along.

So it is a positive that i am in pretty good shape? I hear it is not the place for fatass beer drinking hunters... I am looking for a challenge. Somewhere picturesque and beatiful. Somewhere the beer flows like wine like the salmon of capistrono

If you do it during the week I'd try the north trac and get as close to prison property as possible.

I've seen some monster sheds that were picked up by the guys at Angola.

We have a portable boat winch to drag them out. I will hunt there very soon.

i hunt just north of there. being in shape will not help you in many of those hill situations

What do you mean by that? Are you saying some situations are physically impossible to retrieve a deer? I am compiling my 4 day hunting and primitive camping checklist. Yall throw out some must have items that will make this trip seamless.

not really, but dont expect to just pack one out of there by yourself with no help. Are you going with anyone? I definitely wouldnt venture too far out there by myself. Come a long and a cheater rope is a good idea to have at the camp, because sometimes it will be easier to go straight up a cliff with the deer than pack it all the way around. Mainly, just have a sense of where you are and the direct line back to where to need to go. I hunt the same type of terrain that is out there, and it is easy when you have other help and 4-wheelers. Tunica has some huge deer
