Is Tom Brady 3rd now with his current streak?

He's second.
He's behind by about 12 games.

People keep talking about how Brady will also break it this season.
What is it?
There is no Unitas record anymore.

Brees had a couple of garbage games in there where they went out of the way to keep his streak alive.

yeah I'm sure that only applied to Brees and not Unitas

To illustrate why this comparison and the "era" argument is dumb, I simply present Barry Bonds. Did several people come close to 70 home runs during a 15 year juice period? Yep.

Which is more likely to be broken today? 73 HRs in a season or a 56 game hitting streak? No one is sniffing 74.

Yup Emmitt Smith is NOT the leading rusher of all-time. A meaningless record

Emmitt was very good but his massive yardage has more to do with the number of games he played verses the other guys in the conversation. Jim Brown and those guys played shorter seasons and less years.

Emmitt was definitely the most durable back of all time to last as long as he did but his yardage total is not hallowed.

off the top of my head I could not tell you how many yards he has in his career or how many tds.

I remember his great seasons and great runs and great games, not the stats.

Brees is great and will be in the HOF not because of this streak

All-time:

How does that compare to the hitting streak list?

Jim Brown says frick Emmitt Smith.

I never said the streak would get him HOF votes. But to say its a meaningless stat is just ridiculous. I will agree that Baseball stats are more of a barametor to how good a player was compared to football stats.

Hitting streak less likely, as someone mentioned the media scrutiny but also you don't see the same pitcher 3/4 times a game anymore. You may see 4 different types if pitchers in 4 at bats now.

How does that compare to the hitting streak list?

My last word on this comparison is that a hitting streak is a personal thing. A hitter tries his best to get a hit every single time he is up and its a record that is kept up with daily.

I never heard for example that Dave Kreig was on a 28 game Touchdown streak and his streak was on the line. If a guy was on a 28 game hitting streak its all over the sports news.

I think a guy like Montana in the 80's could have thrown one every game if the 49ers went out of the way to make sure he did. I dont think it was a record he was chasing. He would let Rathman or Craig get some pay dirt instead of play action from the 1.

I dont think Tom Landry gave a shite about Staubachs Touchdown streak in the 70's.

Drews a great quarterback but he wouldnt be one iota worse if he didnt get a TD in that Rams game or any other.

How many football fans even knew about Unitas 47 game steak or who was second 18 months ago?

I agree with you. Sustaining a hit streak is much harder than the touchdown streak.

Just for comparison purposes I want to see what is the closest someone got to DiMaggio

I love Brees but I think anyone in their right mind realize Dimaggio's hit streak is a much tougher task.

Especially when you consider the change in the game of football to favor the passing game
