re: More Improbable: DiMaggo's hitting streak v. Brees' TD streak

If Brees extends his record by 2 more seasons or so, then his enters the conversation, but as of now...no.

re: More Improbable: DiMaggo's hitting streak v. Brees' TD streak

I think the better question might be was Johnny Unitas or Joe DiMaggio's streak better?

Times are different now. While what Drew has been doing over the last few seasons is amazing, TD passes are much more common in today's league than 50 years ago. It was harder for Johnny because of the way the game was played then and that it took more seasons for him to do it because of the shorter season.

DiMaggio's streak is still better and is one of the most unbreakable in sports IMO. I think Unitas' record would have been more unbreakable but the game has changed.

records in baseball are revered and part of the game's lore.

football stats are meaningless and lacking any sort of historical context due to how vastly different the rules of the game are and how the game is played now verses even 15-20 years ago.

Only saintards care about this.

But yet look at thye list and you see just seven players that have more than two games in a row with a TD pass. Not saying it matches Joe D's record but still very impressive.

So, a 75 straight games with a TD streak wouldn't be at all impressive to you?

Yup Emmitt Smith is NOT the leading rusher of all-time. A meaningless record.

Should be easy to prove. Take your top 10% of hitters and get the percentage of games they go WITHOUT a hit.

Take the top 10% of QBS and get the percentage of games they go WITHOUT a TD pass.

Then calculate a ratio: %woHit/%woTDpass

Multiply that ratio times how many games Brees had thrown a TD to see how many more he needs.

No doubt plus the fact that when Unitas was doing it Im sure he didnt even know it was a record! He was just playing ball. Once he was done it became a record to break.

Brees had a couple of garbage games in there where they went out of the way to keep his streak alive.

Actually this just got me thinking, anyone know who has gotten to closest to the record before Drew? Is Tom Brady 3rd now with his current streak?
