| Do you notice rhetorical styles... (Posted on 10/8/12 at 11:38 am)
...of major political speakers? I was just listening to Romney. He does not stick his chin up like Obama in what I call a Mussolini pose. He looks straight ahead. He has a conversational tone in that he doesn't shout (like Obama) and his pace is much quicker. Obama uses excessive dramatic pause for effect. Romney's style is very similar to Bill Clinton however, Romney's content is much more concise. Clinton's speeches were Laundry Lists that went on forever because he just loves being on stage. Hillary also has the Mussolini chin in the air. She speaks even more slowly with affectations like Obama. However, Obama uses a normal vocabulary. Hillary uses the vocab of a 3rd grade teacher in front of elementary students. "Let............me..............be........... clear....... I'm ............... for......... goodness. ................. I ..... am... against.........badness. Any other opinions here about the major player's style of speaking?

Obama does the opposite of "uptalking" on the last word of his sentence. He drops in tone and a little in volume.

I'll watch for that. BTW, that reminds me of the Valley Girl trend a few years ago of ending a sentence as a question. Always drove me nuts: "So, I went to the store? And I looked for my friends? And they weren't there? So, I like, went home?"

Was afraid if I spelled it "tarred", I'd definitely be hammered as racist...

It's smugness at its grandest. That pose signifies a power in which he believes he is absolute and everyone else is completely beneath him. Now, this next part is important, so everyone pay attention... During the debate, Obama, who always gives speaches with the power pose, had his chin tucked into his chest the entire time, meaning he was completely submitted to Romney for the entire confrontation. This is pure weakness, and it is something NO president should ever demonstrate! If he submits and yeilds power to a man who has no power, then what is he doing when he meets with world leaders??? It's disturbing and frightening
