I owned a home with a pool. My kid used it for a couple years when she was younger, but the thing sucked up money at an astounding rate. It's not just the shite that goes wrong—pool filter, motor, a Polaris machine that actually damages your pool, electric circuitry, etc.—it's the fact that every 1-inch plastic widget you need to keep the thing running costs like $49. Forget being a lawyer—if you want to make easy money, start manufacturing some plastic part that goes to a Polaris machine, something that costs 98¢ to make ... and sell it retail for $49—make that $49.99.

Love the pool, esp. for entertaining. Have one now, putting one in the new house also. Subbing it/building it myself.

Since I switched to a saltwater/chlorine generator things have eased up a bit, but still more trouble than it's worth. Now that our kids are mostly out of the house, it just sits there sucking electricity. Side question...why do Polaris cleaners cost so much?

I work at a pool store I would never have a salt generator in my pool ever. Just my opinion.

Why not? You would go with good ole chlorine tablets? I had an inline chlorinator on my pool and it was really pretty easy to maintain it. However, everyone that came over asked me if it was a saltwater pool and when I said no, they looked down on me like my pool was shat. Obviously, 95% of those people didn't even own a pool.

What sucks is having a shorter time to use it(in Kentucky) unlike the climate in Louisiana of course. But I like mine all the same. I've had some wild arse parties.

I have a small pool and enjoy it. I have never noticed the problems others seem to complain about. It is not that expensive to maintain and also, I keep it open all year
How big is your pool? I'm thinking of installing a 10' x 20' rectangular pool at wading height for volleyball games. More of just a wading pool, not a deep pool. I would imagaine the upkeep/money/installation would be sig less for this than a big pool. Anyone have any experience with this?
