re: Steam Shower

A steam shower can look like any other custom shower, but the glass walls go all the way to the ceiling. The steam generator can be in the attic and there is just a small steam jet about a foot from the floor and an electronic control mounted anywhere in the room.

We're doing this for the aesthetic value.

This was what I was thinking. I might just go for the steam as an "addition" to our current custom shower. Thanks for the advice.

I started this thread too late in the day; I feel like I might get some better responses in the morning.

To everyone that has responded thus far, I truly appreciate the input!

I will bump this thread in the morning.

re: Steam Shower
The shower walls at my Grandfather's house go damn near to the ceiling. The pressure is really strong and their water gets hot as hell. It's a regular shower, but it steams up like you wouldn't believe.

I'm sure it's just me, but every time I stay there and take a shower, I started sneezing uncontrollably. Gotta keep both doors wide open every time, cause if not I'll be sneezing for an hour straight.

CSB, I know......but frick a steamer.....what's the point? Are you Finnish?

re: Steam Shower
If you install one in a regular shower, make sure you build a bench into the shower. Also, because the shower is enclosed, you will always fight mold & mildew. So be prepared to squeegee the shower door after every use and leave it open to air out.

I grew up with this setup. Love them. Excellent for you to sweat out after a tough workout or night on the town. Afterwards you feel like a million bucks.

This...I stayed in a condo in Keystone, CO, fancy place that had the same setup. It was awesome! Custom shower is sweet, custom shower with steam outlet is awesome.

Be sure you have a really good tile setter. Most professional tile setters will not warranty a steam shower. If they offer some sort of warranty expect it to be short. Steam plays havoc on a traditional shower install. If you decide on a custom shower with a steam addition then make sure they use the kerdi method of installing or laying the tile. A couple forums to learn about tile setting and steam showers is John Bridge forums and Terry Love plumbing forums.

BTW I've installed Kerdi and what a PITA to do correctly.

WAY off topic here but where do you farm? My mom went to Ole Miss and my family has been farming in Shelby since the beginning of time it seems.

re: Steam Shower
I was surprised to see that it costs under $5k... The more I look at it and the more I think about it, though, I know it just wouldn't work in my house. I am in the process of looking at rebuilding my shower and I am probably going to have to spend a lot more for a lot less in terms of features. However, I need for my shower to match the bathroom and the rest of the decor in the house. This thing just comes across like a human washing machine once you get past the (admittedly cool) bells and whistles.

With that having been said, if you could customize this with tile and fittings that could be used to match the house, I would definitely say go for it!

re: Steam Shower
Make sure you find someone who will install it first and do not be suprised or shocked when you get the install price. Most plumbing contractors are going to be very hesitant to mess with one of these and if they do quote you its going to high....trust me, im a doctor

re: Steam Shower
I've changed my mind on wanting this shower after reading the responses on this thread.

Thanks for everyone's input. The money can be used elsewhere and it looks cheap as frick.
