Greatest historical sporting event you have seen in person?

I really don't have one. Most of my in person sporting events consists of LSU, Astros, Braves, and the Saints.

If I had to pick one, it would be the first OT game in Tiger Stadium, Tenn, 2000.

It's not much of a historical event as far as all sports.

2011 National Championship AU-Oregon is the only one I can come up with

A NC game is not really a historical event because it happens every year and it was not AU's first NC.

The barn burner or earthquake game is more of a historical game than a NC game (IMO).

I dunno if these are "historical" but my first lsu game was the earthquake game. Was at the nfc championship game in the dome for the saints. First lsu basketball game was against loyola when the score was like 225-198

NFC championship game where the Saints finally break the curse and make it to a superbowl is all I've got.

Historic

1) First night game in history of the Big House last year. Epic.

Semi - Historic (Especially for the city of Detroit)
2) Lion's game clinching a playoff birth for the first time since 1999.

The Loyola game would be historical to me.

When I say historical, I am talking Miracle on Ice, Mr October 3-HR game, WS last year when SL came back, Ripkin's record breaking streak game or the game where he finally sat out.

Texas Tech vs UT in 2008. Crabtree catch

Tracy Mcgrady scoring 13 points in the last 50 seconds to beat the Spurs was unreal

A Pedro vs. Clemens matchup when he was with the Yankees.

Oh, and LSU vs. UF in 2007.

My wife actually has better ones than me. She was at the earthquake game and saw Chris Webber call the timeout.

I don't get to games to often, but I remember Reggie Bush's night against the Vikings in the Dome on a Monday Night. Not a very good one historically, but if he doesn't trip over the Fleur-de-lis at midfield he would have had 3 punt return for TD's and a dick load of yards. Maybe a record.

I was at the game where the rafters caught fire and ended up falling and burning up some of the field in the Dome. That was pretty awesome.
