I do too, my wife from Arkansas loves it more than I do...and she hated cold weather when she was down south.
We average about 100" a year at sea level locally. Varies quite a bit though

I'm in Chicago right now and I'm freezing. Miserable and it's only October. I will take my New Orleans weather anyday

It's so exciting. I love when it gets cool!
I guess it was a cold front or something that went through the South last night. It was sweltering at the game yesterday.

Louisiana sunshine pumpers. Imagine having days like this for more than just two weeks of the year. Places like this do exist in the US. Just not in the deep south.

I think it depends on the snow. Sloppy east coast crap then no, but fresh powder isn't so bad. You get used to it, but towards the end of the season you can't wait for it to just go away. I can deal with snow. My problem comes with the ice.

Exactly why we are building our retirment home in the San Juan Islands in Washington...days like this at least 5 months of the year.

Agreed...waiting for the ferry at Anacortes is always the official start to our frequent trips to the islands.

Are you currently looking for retirement house; or is this long term planning? That area has captured my attention as well. Went to whistler, San Juan islands and town of Victoria as a reward for finishing my MBA many years ago. The area has stuck in my mind ever since. Told the wife and kids we are going next summer to "re-visit " my long term thinking.
A condo in Victoria for summer months and a place in Baton Rouge for the football season and winter is what I'm thinking.
We may rent a boat from Anacortes Yacht charters and go up to Princess Louisa Inlet. It got left of the "to-do" list 10 years ago and I need to scratch it off.....

Just started building on Orcas Island. Bought the property in 2009 (thought the real estate market had bottomed out!) and just signed a contract with builder/designer. My wife and I had narrowed our retirement locations to western North Carolina, the region around Corvallis, OR and the San Juan Islands. No exaggeration, but it only took 30 minutes on Orcas and our search was over. That part of the world is as close to paradise as you can get. Hope that the LSU/UW series can be renewed!

I know lots of folks with winter/retirement homes down there. I can see why many people fall in love with it. It's a lot like a slightly more crowded, less snowy/rainy S.E. Ak.

I'll be in Seattle in late August for a week or so, but don't think I'll be able to head over to the Islands or Victoria so I'm trying to squeeze in another trip as soon as my kids (13 and 10) hit summer break.

Thanks. We typically take the family vacations after mid-June. Warmer in the lowlands and mountain roads tend to be cleared of snow. We have to wait patiently as LA schools let out in May. Of course that means returning to the brutal heat and humidity of June-Aug in LA.
