If Les has somehow memorized the entire playbook so that he doesn't need his chart during the game, then that's damn impressive.

And there is ur problem right there buddy. He hasn't memorized the whole playbook that is why we see the same shite over and over again.

Ok. Tell me exactly who. Which head coach that you know of completely lets his coordinator run the show? Names please and how you know this.

Mark richt totally ran bowdens offense.
Mack brown gave control to harsdin

Miles is a CEO not an offensive mind like spurrier or Kelly. He needs to surround himself with good people and let them do their jobs and stick to what he does best, recruit.

Saban doesn't give up any control to anyone about anything at any tine. Hell I bet he chooses the recipes for the cake at the post game meal. For the basketball team.

Saban is a defensive genius though. He controls the defense because he knows he's the best in the game at it.

I almost called this response in my post, but I was scared it would deter someone from posting it, and I wanted to see it.

I guess Stud uses it as a place mate for lunch and Krags uses it as a fan on those hot Saturdays. Or maybe it's pictures of chicks, since he has it in hand and references it when talking to Mett before he takes the field.

And you believe that he just lets his OC run with whatever he wants?
Seriously? You believe that? Saban?
I remember people around here criticising Saban for handcuffing Jimbo.

Totally, completely without suggestion and or overriding the OC. Ever?
I'm curious how you know this.

I can agree with this.

So you don't want him to coach at all, right?
Should he attend game planning sessions? Can he say anything if allowed to attend? Can he go to practice? Would he be allowed to do any coaching then?

Interesting view you have of how big time football works.

I believe he tells the OC what scheme he wants but I don't believe he calls plays. I bet he is 10x more hands on during the game with the defense than the offense.

Not at all, he should tell them when to shut it down when the game is in hand. Crucial decisions should be his to make but calling individual plays hell no.

How do you know who calls what plays? Seriously?

Because we don't have an OC. We have an offensive line coach pretending to be one in the coaches box, which of course takes him away from his job of being an offensive line coach.

Our biggest problem this year has been the offense. And the O-Line is significantly under-performing. It kinda looks like we don't have an O-Line coach or an OC, doesn't it?

Seriously? You believe that there is anything regarding his football team that Saban doesn't directly and actively control. We are talking about Nick Saban aren't we?

Come on man. You honestly believe that there are head coaches who don't call some plays on both offense and defense? They just stand by and let things go?

Well if he is and Miles is also then the talent gap between the two is even larger than I thought.

Great point. I wonder what happened to the guys that led us to 13 wins last year.

From the inside....

Les doesn't call plays (if you notice, doesn't even have a play sheet on him during the games), however he gets the final say. So if he wants a run to the left, he tells the OC and he calls a particular run to the left.

The OC calls the specifics, Les just chooses what he wants. I can only think of a FEW instances where CLM called a whole series.

Home against Arky after the ole miss loss, he called the offense when jasper tied it up, and we won in OT.

re: Will CLM ever totally turn the offense over to an OC?

Where in my subject line does it say CLM can NEVER be involved? My suggestions is that CLM has way too much input and too much control. He is no Spurrier- CLM has proved he knows little about offensive play calling and scheming- He needs to get a proven OC and stay out of his way-he should always have input on crucial plays but he needs to realize he is severely handicapped at offensive play calling

His biggest problem is himself- self inflicted wounds.

Real leaders lead, delegate and give authority to those who report to them- they do not micromanage

I can give you 4 million reasons why Aleva will not have the Mack Brown talk with Les

re: Will CLM ever totally turn the offense over to an OC?

quote:

Do you suggest he turned over the reins totally to Chavis?

On D? Yeah, that is exactly what I am suggesting. That is Chavis' D. Miles might make a few executive decisions on D, but Chavis is doing the scheming.

quote:

If he did that why not abdicate totally to his OC?

Again, I am a big fan of Miles and the guy has done very well at LSU. His strengths are bringing in the top coaches available and recruiting though. Not on field coaching. And I am fine with that. But our Offense is as bad as it has ever been right now. I don't think that is disputable. Its time to let someone else run the offense. Even if our OC is doing a lot more of it then we think, then he needs to be replaced. Actions need to be taken. That is all I am saying.

quote:

Who?

Just look up top running attacks statistically.

quote:

Why is that do you think?

Because as much as I like Miles, I can say that I believe he is stubborn. I feel he truly believes this offense is the best thing for our program to win championships.
