Recruiting for 2 types of offense

Chavis is very focused on the types of players he is bring in on defense. Those players fit his scheme to a T but since we have no identity on offense, we recruit like that. Shep is a great guy but he has no business being on this team, neither do half our receivers. If miles wants to pound the ball and pay tough nose football the why in the hell does he recruit these small receivers? We use to have guys that were 6'3 and taller and now we have 1 guy that is 6'3.
Miles needs to decide if he wants to run a peristyle tough nose football type offense or a spread type offense and recruit to that scheme.

We have only one type of offense. A Les miles clusterfrick.. Jimbo said Les influenced his offense and over ruled him often. He fricked with defense for one year and we gave up 50 twice. No chance to develop a qb, do something in rythem

The odd thing is CLM seems surprised when he's questioned about the Offense, like nothing's wrong.

re: Recruiting for 2 types of offense

I really don't understand why everyone thinks a taller wr would make a big difference. It can't be the blocking angle because we have some good blocking wrs. What good does size do if the QB doesn't have time to throw or if that big wr drops the ball?

Part of our players for the system problem is that we're dependent on instate kids and the kids we have are the best the state has had to offer the last few years. We've tried recruiting top level tall wrs and have had no luck. We are not gonna stop taking the best the state has to offer because the kids don't fit the perceived system that we run.

Les has made it pretty clear in recruiting that he wants to run a spread type offense with a mobile QB. The problem with that is that we don't have any rbs that fit that style and the fact that we recruit QBs for both systems. Now(if things work lik they should) we'll be looking at a new OC next year that will have different styles of players he wants. Even still, whoever the OC is will be handcuffed by the talent the state produces. Can't take 6'3 kids just because they're 6'3. They have to have talent to go with the height. It's been proven time and time again that smaller receivers can be extremely successful in college football. We need a better scheme to help the talent we have and need the talent to play to their capablity.

So true. Miles is awesome on so many things but a terrible offensive X and Os coach.

A new OC and/or OL coach. Stud has to go. His line sucks and his playcalling is worse. We need someone with some imagination in playcalling and that actually knows how to design plays and call a game with some semblence of rhyme or reason.

Oh, OK. I think I agree. Just thought you might have some inside scoop. However, I can't see CLM firing him, and he doesn't strike me as HC material, so...promote him to tight ends coach?

If you have 2 players that are similar in talent. I will take the bigger taller player in football every time. Especially at the receiver position size is coveted. In the NFL there is a reason why teams look for kids with Rueben's physical features. We don't need 6'3" to block. We need a big receiver to be a receiving threat. None of our receivers scare anybody.

This was how I felt with Addazio. He was a great OL coach, but a team can not have the offensive playcaller and the position coach of 5 of the 11 players.

We have an offensive line guy for a head coach. We have an offensive line coach as our coordinator. If these two clowns can't evaluate players then we are in BIG trouble. If it's a developmental thing we are again screwed as these two are also in charge of that. Neither situation bodes well for the Tigers.

I keep thinking about Randle, the QB we got who was headed to Oregon. All accounts are that he has legit 4.3 speed and is a hell of a runner. It sounds like a waste of talent to not try and get the ball in his hands, even as a RB.

it seems to shock miles every time the offense has to score points w/o the defense or special teams helping provide half or more of our points, or even when we get shut out.just imagine the upside to our offense if miles would sit up in the stands, and let a real offensive coach call the plays. but i think his ego would never allow that. this may be a long year.

Not sure what you're talking about but Shep and Landry are excellent blockers. Who the hell you think the WRs are blocking? DL?
