New "smart meters" Another way to screw homeowners?

Just got a new one from Cleco. 9 days out of the month on the new meter and my bill is more than double what it was last month and 80% higher than last year at this time

smart meters are there to accurately price the electricity you consume, other people using less electricity probably paid a share of your electricity use due to the inability to price power consumption per household, so stop being a damn commie wanting the antiquated communal system of paying power we used to have

Won't the smart meters also be able to limit electricity usage per household whenever the "powers that be" decide it is needed?

I have a relative who works at and these new meters are no different than the ones before you just don't have guys walking around checking them, the meter calculates your bill and sends it off to be billed to you.

Learn to control your energy usage or quit bitching. Also you probably pay a high per kwh rate.

Yeah I heard something on this (smart meters) the other day. Seems EMF can really screw with your head and affect your sleep very badly.

I work in the AMI industry. The meters are far more accurate than your old one. Most areas install them to eventually do time of use billing, meaning you will get charged more for the energy you use when there is a high load on the grid (generally 4-7PM is TOU hours)

We have plenty of excess electricity capacity in the US and about +100 years of electricity generation potential in the ground from shale gas, take your paranoid delusions elsewhere
