| Question About Non-Working Americans (Posted on 10/6/12 at 8:23 am)
In a country that has people described as working poor is it fair to have people who are non-workers with middle class lifestyles? Why should anyone receive benefits for not working greater than the wages earned by the working poor?

They shouldn't, but in some cases they do.

There is no valid reason unless there's a contrived effort to have more of the working poor abandon the workforce and seek government assistance. The social stigma of taking assistance has long been removed for certain groups and seems to almost be a badge of honor for them to celebrate. If the benefits are more or less equivalent, why work?
