| Rank John Grisham's books (Posted on 10/6/12 at 8:11 am)
Recently I've tried to get into reading more, and have read a few of his books. I really like his style and would like to read some more, so I wanted to get the board's input. The ones I've read are the firm, the client, and painted house. I loved firm and client, couldn't put em down. I hated painted house. It was slooooow and relatively boring and I had to force myself to finish.

A time to kill is still the best....I still haven't seen the movie because I think it would just tick me off. Pelican Brief is pretty good

I thought he peaked pretty early. I used to read everyone of his, but I was so not into The Chamber. I wound up reading the Rainmaker years later, but that's the last one of his I read.

His books seemed to get more trite and formulaic as he went on and I stopped reading him too. He does have some talent but it largely gets wasted when he is trying to write a bestseller that will be turned into a movie. One that I really liked, though, as an audio book is Playing for Pizza. Not your standard Grisham novel.

Bought this in the Atlanta airport waiting for my connecting flight. A very good book and very different from his tried and true. I wish he would write more non legal books, but as has been said those are the books that bring in the money for him

I haven't read any of his books in a long time, but I remember really liking The Chamber. A Time To Kill is definitely a movie worth watching. I wrote a paper on the 'What Would You Do?' speech in high school. It will kind of piss you off, but it's a pretty powerful movie.

1. A Time to Kill 2. The Firm 3. The Pelican Brief 4. Runaway Jury 5. The Brethren I also enjoyed The Testament alot, except the ending pissed me off. Man, he knocked out some awesome shite for about 15 years. One of my favorite authors. Tom Clancy is the only one I can think of that went on a similar run of awesomeness.

definitely the best. I thought the movie did it justice, although obviously not as good as the book.

The Testament is the best one he ever wrote. It's not like his other books, but it was my favorite. Some other good ones: The Pelican Brief The Rainmaker The Litigators A Time To Kill Calico Joe (Nice quick read) Don't waste your time on "The Confession", "Bleachers", or "Ford County".

A Time to Kill was actually Grisham's first book he wrote. Was published by a smaller publishing house. After The Firm and The Pelican Brief blew up, they re published A Time to Kill. Its really good, and the movie is just as good. I remember liking The King of Torts a good bit. The Chamber and The Runaway Jury are both good too. IMO, Just keep reading them in the order he published them. If your looking to move onto something after that. Robert Ludlums Borne 4 books are all really good and different from the movies. Johnathan Patterson Alex Delaware novels are really good. There are 24 books in the series and counting. Some have been made into movies.

Did you mean James Patterson's Alex Cross novels or Jonathon Kellerman's Alex Delaware novels?

I remember when The Firm came out and was a big sensation. I was a little disappointed. The Pelican Brief was so flipping stupid, one of the biggest reaches of a plot by a long shot. The Client was a less ridiculous version of the PB. I stopped reading it after that.

I get them confused. Regardless, it's a real good read. And Turow is > Grisham...simply for that book then and of course Presumed Innocent which is better than any of the assembly-line Grisham books.
