They're going to side with the umps because it's a judgment call. If it was a safe/out call at first it would be very cut and dry and they might admit it was wrong. The fact that it was by far the deepest IFR ever called at 225 feet tells u everything. Shit, it was deep enough for someone like bourn or Constanza to score on a sac fly. Plus the ball actually hit the ground partly because of where it was placed between the OF and SS. that should be a hint as to the correct answer.

225 feet
There is no way that was that far in. Maybe 100 Feet. But that was not over 2/3's of a Football Field away.

ATL/StL. Ball wasn't caught, no one should have been out.

The basepaths are 90 feet. You think it landed 10 feet past 3rd base? The outfield grass doesn't even start for about 30 feet past the baseline and the ball was at the very least 60 feet past the cut of the infield.

Some people need to read the rule, if a play is made by an infielder it can be ruled infield fly, regardless of where the catch actually happens. So lets look at the reasonable effort part: dude was camped under the ball until he hears what he believes is a call off from LF and ducks out if the way. The last part is the timely manner part, which I will concede it was a late late call, HOWEVER the ump must make sure it will be a reasonable effort play, hence the delay. Right call IMO, does it suck for the braves? Yes, but its not why you lost, had 2nd and 3rd in three straight innings. On that note: GB is the worse call
All of this ^^^^^

How many Braves fans are bitching today if they don't call the infield fly and the ss drops the ball on purpose and doubles up the runners?
