It's not that the call was made, it's when the call was made

It was a gray area on whether or not it could have been called. My issue is that the ump called it a split second before it hit the ground. I played baseball for 12 years and infield fly is called right off the bat, not at the end of the descent. That's umpiring 101.

You disagree? He called that at the right time?

I agree. Awful late call, but otherwise within the rule

Just because it's normally called right off the bat, doesn't mean it has to be called then.

This. It's the way the rule is written

Not really, but Braves fans found a scapegoat. They still needed three more runs after that to win.

Maybe it's not technically wrong. It's debatable. However I've never seen the infield fly rule called on a hit like that ever. And certainly not that late. So the question is - why start now. In a playoff game?

Except some bettors and people in Jawja

Wouldn't it been bases loaded 1 out?

I'm glad the Cards made it, but I don't like this format and I hate for there to be this kind of controversy attached to it.

Braves fans will forever hate St. Louis. 2 years in a row

It's not that the call was made, it's that the ump is still defending it. Fans can forgive a blown call but not a liar.

Holbrook just needs to own up to it, admit his mistake and move on. People make mistakes.

Even Bobby Lowder thinks Holbrook got paid.

Even Mike Slive and Rodgers Redding know that was a bad call. But they knew also knew with absolute unequivocal evidence that PP7 made that pick and still backed the Bama ref and Bama replay guy. Torre and Selig should come out nd say Holbrook blew it but we can't change it.

It's one thing to own up to a blown call like the one that cost the Tigers the perfect game a few years ago, this is a judgement call, he has every right to defend his judgement of the play, we can all not agree with him, but I have no problem with him defending it.

Ah I think the Cards win whether the call was late or not.

I'd like to take this time to thank the Atlanta Braves franchise and fanbase for sending the Cardjnals to the playoffs in back to back years!

Yeah the braves had shitty luck 2 years in a row and the cards have had incredible luck 2 years in a row. It's one of the most uncanny things I've ever seen but that's baseball.

Not sure why he would do that, since he followed the rules and made the right call.
