People should not be able to go to college because the Government thinks they should... by making college overly affordable, college becomes obsolete. Students should earn their scholarships and if they don't, they should go to a local technical school. Bachelor degrees are the new high school diplomas. It's supply and demand.
This is the clear difference between Obama and Romney.
If you want a College degree and cannot aford it then you need to bust your arse in High School... stay out of trouble and be serious about it.... Not just give it to the less fortunate because they are a minority or they are poor.

Following the resounding success of everyone should own a home policy, why the hell not?
Instead of a housing crisis due to defaulting mortgages, you will have people who never should have tried to attend college, defaulting on student loans.

Completely agree. College tuition has skyrocketed ever since the "everyone deserves a chance" BS swept through the country. College should only be for those who possess intellect.
German/Japanese system FTW.
Could you imagine the outrage from the left if we ever enacted this type of reform? It wouldn't be pretty.

I work with a bunch of 6 figure guys who never graduated college so I don't think it's necessary to make money.

Right. And, taking into account population increase, I highly doubt that there's significantly more engineers/doctors/lawyers than there used to be.
And I don't get where you're coming up with this cheap college info. Tuition is always going up. If you want to make it more affordable, the government needs to stay out of the student loan business. Let banks decide if they want to give a kid a $60k loan to take art classes at Tulane. Fewer kids going to college would drop the costs. I'd also support removing electives to save money.

It's an issue of the current system making loan money far too easy to obtain. You are flooding the market with money, allowing institutions to keep bloated tuition prices and worthless degrees/programs.
Decrease the amount of stafford loans given every year to undergraduate kids. Make students think about how much a degree is going to cost them at school x vs. school y. Watch tuition prices fall back down to earth.

Depends on the degree. A BS in Petroleum Engineering is a very useful degree. A BA in Art History not so much.
